When is Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition Coming Out?

After the reveal at AdeptiCon, many wonder when is Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition coming out?

Ever since the AdeptiCon reveals, the Warhammer community has been buzzing with excitement for the 4th edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. There are an incredible amount of rumours about the launch box, new Skaven and Stormcast units, as well as how the game will change after the release of the next edition. But there’s one question that is constantly present in everyone’s mind: when is Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition releasing?

When is Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition Coming Out?

We don’t have an exact date yet, but Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition is supposed to be released around June 2024, roughly the same time Warhammer 40k 10th Edition came out last year. When we’ll get closer to the date, Games Workshop will surely reveal more information, but so far, that’s all we know.

However, the first time the public will get to play 4th edition has a date: GW revealed that the US Open 2024, taking place between the 16th and 19th of May will be the place for some demo games of Age of Sigmar 4th! For those in Europe, especially in the UK, Warhammer World will also grant a chance to try the new rules out before they release on May 18th and 19th.

What Do We Know About Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition?

One thing is sure: the Skaven will play a major part in 4th Edition. They were the antagonists of the cinematic reveal video, and a new Skaven Rat Ogre was featured on the back of the leaked 4th edition Core Rulebooks. The most likely thing is that the launch box for 4th will be a Stormcast Eternals vs Skaven kit, much like the Space Marines vs Tyranids of Warhammer 40k.

Outside of that, we do have some information. The game is aiming to be more interactive with more chances to cast spells and use abilities in your opponents turn. The double turns are not going anywhere, but there will be a heavy price on that.

Artifacts, Command Traits, Spell Lores and Prayers are here to stay, they won’t be consolidated like in 40k – but you can expect them to be streamlined.

The narrative side of AoS, Path to Glory will be more similar to the Crusade mode of 40k, with progressing heroes and units.

And while the subfactions are not going anywhere, we will be playing Indexhammer after 4th Edition releases. The factions will receive their new Battletomes over the course of the edition, meanwhile they will use the warscrolls provided online for free, as well as in the Age of Sigmar App. The points will also be in a separate file, updated regularly just like in 40k.

Seems like Games Workshop took all the things that worked for Warhammer 40k 10th edition to improve Age of Sigmar 4th. However, we hope that they won’t make such drastic changes as they did with the futuristic universe, as AoS 3rd edition is in a pretty great place. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to see what the new Age of Sigmar has to offer, and we can’t wait for the official release date of Warhammer Age of Sigmar 4th Edition!
