UCI to Host Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament for Giving Tuesday Charity

The University of California Irvine is hosting an SSBU tournament to help hospitalized children on Giving Tuesday.

In case you don’t know what “Giving Tuesday” is, it’s a ‘holiday” of sorts after Thanksgiving. It is, of course, after the shopping madness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The focus of this day is giving to charities and nonprofits, hence the name “Giving Tuesday.” It’s on December 3 this year, and the University of California Irvine (UCI) is giving esports and fighting game fans a way to contribute this year via a tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

UCI is collaborating with GameChanger Charity and Amazon Web Services (Amazon owns Twitch in case you didn’t know) to host a charity tournament benefiting hospitalized kids. The tournament will be hosted at the UCI Esports Arena on December 3, from 7 to 10 PM. When the event starts, you’ll be able to find it real quick. This is because it’ll be on the front page of Twitch. According to Mark Deppe, director of UCI Esports:

“We’ve been partnered with GameChanger Charity since our Esports Arena was opened three years ago… Hosting this tournament to help their cause of supporting sick kids through gaming is the best way to spend Giving Tuesday. We hope our viewers will consider donating during the event.”

The “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” tournament will feature gamers from all over Southern California, as well as some really famous faces from the SSBU scene such as TKbreezy, VikkiKitty, and MVD. Again, you can catch the action on Twitch right on Twitch’s front page.
