5. Dong-Jun “Rascal” Kim
Dong-Jun “Rascal” Kim is one of the most flexible players in the Overwatch League. Not only does he master almost all DPS in the game — he also plays support to a high level. He's one of the only players to be tagged as purely “Flex,” and not Tank, Support, or DPS.
At just 21 years old, he'd already played for three teams in the Overwatch League; Inaugural Season champions London Spitfire, Dallas Fuel. And now reigning champions San Francisco Shock. However, his Overwatch League path wasn’t as smooth as it seems. He left London Spitfire for Dallas Fuel after Stage 1, only to be released by Dallas two months later. Rascal then played with NRG Esport, the San Francisco Shock academy team in Overwatch Contenders. In 2019, Rascal signed his comeback to the League with San Francisco Shock — and won the Overwatch League this year.
Despite not being a pure support player, Rascal has always been flexible; able to play on any role. The San Francisco Shock only has two official support players — Grant “moth” Espe and Minki “Viol2t” Park. However, with the new hero pool rule in the League, the team is more flexible than ever, showing new players at the support position, such as Rascal and Minho “Architect” Park.
Brennon Hook, Robert “Hexagrams” Kirkbride and Matt “Mr X” Morello from the Overwatch League Talent Team all consider Rascal as a potential winner of the MVP award for this Season.
“Is Rascal a damage player? Is he one of the best flex supports in the league? Yes and yes. I don’t see a world in which Rascal ever hits the bench. Baptiste meta? Rascal. Pharah meta? Rascal. Rascal meta? Rascal. He might not be the best player in the league, but most valuable player? Rascal.” – Robert “Hexagrams” Kirkbride
4. Jae-Gon “Leejaegon” Lee, Shanghai Dragons
Despite being only 18 years old, Jae-Gon “Leejaegon” Lee already has an impressive track record. He won the Open Division 2018 Season 2: Pacific with We Love Gaming KR (WLG). Then he ended up on the 3rd-4th position of the Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 2: Pacific with Monster Shield KR. Finally, he won both the Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 3: Korea and Overwatch Contenders 2019 Season 2: Korea with RunAway.
Following RunAway’s win in the Korean Contenders, Shanghai Dragons signed Leejaegon in their 2020 roster for the League. He is the third support of the team, alongside Seong-hyeon “Luffy” Yang and Min-chul “IZaYaKI” Kim.
Soe Gschwind, from the Overwatch League Talent Team, sees him as Rookie of the Year; “He made a name for himself in Contenders Korea where he played for team RunAway, enjoying great highs and gut-wrenching lows with that team. Lee managed to grow quickly as a player and that showed on and offstage… a calculated risk-taker who excels at aggressive Lúcio play, which often benefits his team greatly.”
3. Brice “FDGod” Monsçavoir, Paris Eternal
Brice “FDGod” Monsçavoir is a French player signed recently by Paris Eternal. Two years ago, FDGod didn’t even think about playing competitively, but now he has both defended his country in the Overwatch World Cup and took part in several games in the Overwatch League with Paris Eternal.
FDGod specializes in Lucio. Becoming famous thanks to his montages on YouTube, showcasing his wall-riding abilities and how he could disrupt any enemy back lane.
He put his knowledge into application in the Overwatch World Cup in 2019, ending in the 4th position with Team France. He also played in Overwatch Contenders with several teams including Orgless and Hungry, HSL Esports, Cry me a River. More recently he's competed with Young and Beautiful. His debut in the Overwatch League with Paris Eternal has been promising, as can be seen by his many highlight plays with his Lucio.
2. Nam-Jin “Gangnamjin” Gang, Florida Mayhem
Nam-Jin “Gangnamjin” Gang is a former RunAway player. He joined the team in October 2018, following the team’s victory in Overwatch Contenders; Korea. Vancouver Titans signed the entire winning roster then. Leaving empty seats for new talents in RunAway. Nam-Jin “Gangnamjin” Gang was part of this new RunAway roster, alongside Jae-gon “LeeJaeGon” Lee from Shanghai Dragons, Hee-Su “Heesu” Jeong from Philadelphia Fusion, Jun-ki “Yaki” Kim from Florida Mayhem and Dong-jae “Schwi” Lee from London Spitfire.
Despite the pressure of wearing the colors of the reigning champions in the Overwatch Contenders, Gangnamjin and his team managed to meet fans’ expectations and win the new season of Overwatch Contenders 2018: Korea.
Gangnamjin is now bringing his Ana and Zenyatta skills to Florida Mayhem. Both Seth “Achilios” King and Jack “Jaws” Wright, from the Overwatch League Talent Team, see him as a potential winner of the Rookie of the Year Award. “Someone that should not be overlooked this season is Gangnamjin,” said Jack “Jaws” Wright. “This absolute monster of a support player will contend with the very best this year and will not disappoint.”
1. Kyungbo “Alarm” Kim, Philadelphia Fusion
Kyungbo “Alarm” Kim is an 18-year-old South Korean player. He started his career in Overwatch Apex with BK Stars, alongside Se-won “BERNAR” Shin from London Spitfire and Jae-hyeok “Carpe” Lee from Philadelphia Fusion. He then joined the Overwatch Contenders with Lunatic-Hai. First on their second roster, before moving to the main roster. In this team, he played alongside Seung-jun “WhoRU” Lee and Yeon-kwan “Nenne” Jeong from New York Excelsior. As well as Ho-jin “iDK” Park from Hangzhou Spark and Joon-hwan “GuardiaN” Cho from Shanghai Dragons.
Alarm joined Fusion University in 2018. He helped the team win the Overwatch Contenders 2018 North America Season 1, 2, and 3. As well as 2019 Season 1 and the Atlantic Showdown. He met his former teammates BERNAR and WhoRU again, and played alongside players that are now also in the Overwatch League; Adam “Beast” Denton from Toronto Defiant, Tae-hoon “Fuze” Kim from London Spitfire. And Zachary “ZachaREEE” Lombardo from Dallas Fuel. It was about time Alarm joined the Overwatch League as well.
Now that Alarm is 18, it is his time to join the main stage. The Philadelphia Fusion signed him for the Overwatch League 2020 Season. Owing to his performance in Contenders, experts have placed high hopes in Alarm this season. Overwatch League Talent Team members Robert “Hexagrams” Kirkbride and Jake “Jake” Lyon both predict he'll win the Rookie of the Year Award.
“Alarm has been hailed as the Zenyatta to face Seong-Hyun “Jjonak” Bang, and for good reason” said Lyon. “Everything about this player is rock solid: from his wide hero pool to his insane pop-off potential on carry-oriented supports. I can easily imagine Alarm going toe-to-toe with the best that the Overwatch League has to offer. ”
