The PlayStation State of Play September 2022

Here is all you need to know about the most recent State of Play!

Tekken 8 Teaser

After years of Tekken 7 being the fighting game god Harada's gift to all of us, it is time to move on to the next generation of the King of the Iron Fist Tournament. Tekken 8 is gonna released sometime, somewhere. Director Katsuhiro Harada recently talked about how he wants to avoid releasing any games in spring to avoid any competition with Capcom. So if we had to make an educated guess we'll probably see Tekken 8 soon, but not too soon.

Many fans are eager to find out where the bonkers narrative of Tekken is heading after the series' iconic bad guy Heihachi was finally put to rest. Now it's up to Jin Kazama to take the fight to his estranged father Kazuya. The short teaser looks amazing and if Tekken 8 can continue off Tekken 7's momentum, we'll see a bunch more good-ass Tekken in the future.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge – Enhanced Edition

The formally Occulus Quest exclusive Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge is getting a PlayStation VR2 release in the near future. Inspired by the Galaxy's Edge attraction at Disneyland players will crashland on the planet Batuu and find themselves engaging with several of Star Wars' iconic characters. But as of writing, it is hard to tell if this is just a graphical overhaul or if there's gonna be more content. The game is currently in development and expected to release for the Playstation VR2 in 2023.

Demeo is a tabletop miniature dungeon crawler in the style of.. well tabletop miniature dungeon crawlers. It has already been released on PC and the Oculus Quest and has raked in some rather impressive reviews. The PlayStation VR2 version promises to be crossplay so you'll enter an already well-established community of players. The title is also currently in development but there has been not release window yet. But since this is more of a port than a new release, we expect it to launch sometime around the release of the PlayStation VR2.

Like a Dragon: Ishin!

After a soft reboot with Yakuza: Like a Dragon Sega's cult series has finally shed the mantle of Yakuza to be closer to the Japanese title ‘Ryu Ga Gotoku' (meaning: Like a Dragon). This means we finally have an excuse to get the spin-off titles we never got to see in the west. Like a Dragon: Ishin! is the second game of the series set in the Japan of the past. These spin-offs cast some of the series' most iconic characters as historical figures in the typical Yakuza style of gameplay. Do minigames, reveal a devious plot to overthrow the current order of things, have a drink, and learn deep-cutting lessons only life can teach.

Ishin! was initially released in 2014 when the series made the jump from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4. The game will now be completely overhauled in the new Dragon Engine and be remade similarly to the previous Kiwami titles. This means that graphics will receive an overhaul, there's probably going to be more content but the cutscenes and voice acting will remain largely the same. Like a Dragon: Ishin! is expected to release in February next year for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 with more info on it and more at tomorrow's RGG Summit stream by Sega.

Hogwarts Legacy

As previously announced the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy will receive exclusive content for all PlayStation owners. Dubbed the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop will see players explore and brave a wicked mansion and reveal its secrets. It has the same gritty tone we've grown to expect from Hogwarts Legacy, it is just a shame that this content will be exclusive to just one platform. Hogwarts Legacy will release next year on February 10 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Pacific Drive Announcement

The driving survival game Pacific Drive looks like a weird combination of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and My Summer Car. You and your steel stallion have to make your way through some really, really, really weird stuff and make sure that the wheels keep turning. No idea what to expect but if it is even close to what I just described they might have a solid game on our hands. You can find out more about the title on PlayStation's official blog here.

Synduality is your by-the-numbers survival game, you know you go around and gather resources and brave the wilds. Actually, you have a mech, a mech with a cute looking AI trying to keep you from going insane. No idea what to expect here but it has mechs in it so I'm already sold. Synduality is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and will release sometime in 2023.

Stellar Blade (Formally Project Eve)

The Korean spin on the character action game genre Project Eve now has a real name! Stellar Blade is everything you'd expect from a Korean title, looks pretty all the characters have the kind of sense of fashion we can only dream of and the action looks tight. The prospect of a Devil May Cry-esque title set in a gritty, dystopian future is quite enticing and I can't wait to see more of it. Made by SHIFT UP Corporation, Stellar blade is expected to release sometime next year for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PC.

Rise of the Ronin

Remember not so long ago when all of us wondered why no Japanese studio had made a title in the style of Ghost of Tsushima yet? Be careful of what you ask for. Not only do we get Like a Dragon: Ishin! set in 1800s Japan but Team Ninja, the good folks behind Nioh who also have Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty coming are now making Rise of the Ronin. And in their typical fashion, the people behind Ninja Gaiden really know how to show off their craft. Rise of the Ronin is a PlayStation 5 exclusive and is expected to release in 2024.

God of War: Ragnarok Story Trailer and Controller

A limited edition God of War controller design is nice but we're all here to see more of what is probably the second most anticipated title of 2022 (can you believe Elden Ring came out this year? Feels like a lifetime ago). God of War Ragnarök is the next installment in the 2018 soft reboot of Sony's iconic God of War franchise. The titular god of war Kratos and his son are now faced with the nordic end of the world. Just watch the trailer, I'm just here for Christopher Judges' booming voice. And the wait is almost over! God of War Ragnarök will release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9, 2022.

That's our recap of Sony's State of Play. But don't worry we have an entire week of Tokyo Game Show madness ahead of us. So don't miss any of our coverage here on ESTNN
