Two Overwatch League players are paying for a funny mistake.
Jung-Won “Lastro” Mun and Dong-Jun “Rascal” Kim both receive a $1,000 fine for an inappropriate chat during an Overwatch League match.
The Los Angeles Valiant vs. San Francisco Shock match from this weekend generated considerable commentary and public interest. However, this attention is not linked to the quality of the game or incredible plays. The highlight of this weekend came from the in-game chat between the teams, where Jung-Won “Lastro” Mun enjoyed himself.
A Funny Mistake
As most players are either shocked or laughing about Lastro’s comments, Dong-Jun “Rascal” Kim adds his personal touch by repeating Lastro’s message with added symbols. Matthew “super” DeLisi tries to stop them and reminds that the spectators can read the chat, but it’s too late: Lastro and Rascal both broke the Overwatch League Rules of Competition and Code of Conduct.
By writing inappropriate content on the match chat, Lastro and Rascal are both fined $1,000 by the League. This is the first time players ever receive such a fine in Overwatch. The previous infraction committed by Overwatch League players never included in-game communication. Most suspensions and fines are linked to account boosting, like for MinKi “Violet” Park, Kelsey “Colourhex” Birse or Daniel “FunnyAstro” Hathaway. The latest player to commit an infraction was Chan-Hyung “Fissure” Baek, who leaked confidential league information – the incoming role lock plans for Stage 4 in 2019.
I thought the viewers could not see the match chat because everyone was typing in it. I wrote it as a joke, although I should not have done it regardless of whether the viewers could see the match chat or not. I will make sure something like this never happens again.

Lastro apologized for his behavior, even if it made most spectators laugh. The issue is primarily for the Overwatch League’s sponsors, who cannot risk being associated with such comments. A few seconds after Lastro and Rascal’s messages, a Coca-Cola banner popped up on the screen.
Both players received a fine for their inappropriate messages but were not suspended. Los Angeles Valiant and San Francisco Shock will not lose a player for their upcoming matches, respectively against Dallas Fuel and Los Angeles Gladiators.
