The first Scarlet and Violet set will release January 20 in Japanese, and March 31 in English.
Patience will be rewarded with the most appealing English Pokémon TCG set yet.
Scarlet ex & Violet ex
Releasing on Friday, January 20, Scarlet ex and Violet ex will kick off the Generation 9 TCG expansions! The biggest new, or rather returning feature to the game are “ex” cards.
These Japanese Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex cards will be the first feature cards for the new sets. In Japanese, Koraidon ex will be the feature Pokémon of the Scarlet ex set, while Miraidon ex will be the feature Pokémon for the Violet ex set. In English, the first Scarlet and Violet set will be a combination of the Japanese Scarlet ex and Violet ex sets. Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex will share the spotlight when released together in English.
The ex cards in Scarlet ex and Violet ex will take the same form as the 2003-2007 ex cards in the fact that each ex Pokémon will keep its evolutionary Stage rather than being listed as a Basic Pokémon like the 2012-2017.
Terastalized Pokémon will make appearances in the Trading Card Game as well. They seem to be charged with attacks even stronger than standard ex Pokémon.
Gyarados and Arcanine are two fan favorite Pokémon that will be featured in the early Scarlet and Violet sets as Terastallized ex cards. Gyarados will be the Water Type ex card for the Scarlet ex set while Arcanine with be the Fire Type ex for the Violet set.
While all of the Terastallized Pokémon in the first sets will match their primary typing, it is completely possible and most likely that we will see Pokémon with unusual typings as Tera ex cards! That being said, they don't seem to exist yet in the Base Sets of Scarlet and Violet.
