Looking at the rewards you get from betraying Glut or Spaw during the fungal conflict in Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2
Baldur's Gate 3's world is home to many kinds of creatures, and some of the strangest organisms you'll find during your playthrough reside in the cavernous depths of the Underdark.
If you're already deep into Act 1 and chose to take the Underdark route to Moonrise Towers, you will eventually come across a Myconid colony in Ebonlake Grotto. The denizens of this colony are glowing mushroom people sharing one consciousness and led by Sovereign Spaw.
Venturing into this place and learning their struggle with the Duergar lets you take on their questline. And upon proving yourself to the Myconid circle, you're then approached by Sovereign Glut who seeks revenge against Spaw's inaction, which directly led to his colony getting wiped by the dark dwarves.
One of the major storylines within this biome involves a choice between two leaders, and either choice presents unique rewards, as well as approval from certain companions. Knowing the loot you can get from both paths let you weight your options. With that in mind, let's take a look at the rewards you get from choosing either Glut or Spaw in the Myconid colony in Baldur's Gate 3.
Should You Side With Glut or Spaw?
Side with Spaw
Rejecting Glut leads to a hard encounter with the scorned Myconid, so make sure you and your companions are well-rested before the fight.
The Underdark is teeming with dangers that hide Legendary-grade loot, including some of the best armor and weapons in the game. Some of these can even save you from devestating critical hits, if you're brave enough to find them.
Siding with Spaw and avenging his people lets you gain approval from Karlach and the Gith Fighter Lae'zel.
Rewards for killing Glut can be found on his corpse. These are what you get:
- Scroll of Blur
- Scroll of Hold Person
- Bonecap
- Hastening Spores
- Lump of Myconid Flesh
- Nightlight Frond
- Poison Spores
- Rogue's Morsel
After the battle, talk to Spaw to let him know of Glut's foiled plot. Afterwards, Spaw will give you a new name: “Kin-Spirit”.
Side with Glut
Taking Glut's side in “Avenge Glut's Colony” quest leads you in a confrontation against Sovereign Spaw and the entire colony. Here, Glut aids you as a temporary companion. Successfully killing Spaw lets Glut take over as the new Sovereign.
Many of BG3's overarching quests have complex storylines that made the game the standout that it is, and it certainly took time for the cRPG to get to where it is today. To see how the best Dungeons & Dragons sim compares to the other games published by Larian Games, click here.
As you can probably guess, Astarion approves when you take the usurper's side. Astarion's approval only occurs when you take the evil route in your in-game decisions, making his romance sidequest difficult for some.
When you loot Spaw, you'll get the Sovereign's Key which is used to unlock the treasure cache within the colony. After the battle, speak to Glut to claim your new name: “King-Bringer”.
And that's everything there is to know about the Glut vs Spaw mini-quest.
