Poome Replaces Diamond on Dignitas for the Last Two Weeks of LCS Summer Regular Season

Dignitas is bringing in Philippe “Poome” Lavoie-Giguere as their new starting support as the team is trying to secure a spot in the LCS Summer Playoffs.

Despite coming into the 2023 LCS Season with an ambitious project, Dignitas had fallen very short of the expectations with their last place finish in the Spring Split. But with multiple roster changes during the offseason, especially with the addition of the Korean top laner Lee “Rich” Jae-won, Dignitas became one of the surprises of the Summer Split so far as they sit tied for fifth place with a 6-6 record after Week 4.

But with the playoff race heating up at the middle and low end of the LCS standings as we head into the last two weeks of the regular season, Dignitas decided to make another roster change to give themselves the best chance at a top-eight finish. The team decided to bench their starting support David “Diamond” Bérubé, who was one of the new signings during the offseason. To replace Diamond, Dignitas announced that they are signing Poome for the remainder of the Summer Split.

Despite debuting in the LCS back in 2020 Summer with 100 Thieves, Poome’s first regular starting opportunity came when he joined CLG with his long-time bot lane partner Fatih “Luger” Güven at the start of 2022. The Canadian support spent three splits with that CLG core and helped his team to two top-four finished. Unfortunately, that CLG and then NRG rosters couldn’t find any success in the playoffs which then led to Poome and Luger leaving the org during the 2023 MSI break.

Still, Poome was considered a top-half LCS support during his CLG tenure and he can help Dignitas in their playoffs goal. Most parts of the current Dignitas roster are overperforming compared to pre-Summer expectations, but Diamond has been one of the worst-performing supports in the LCS so far this split. He is the one Dignitas player drawing the bulk of the criticism from the community.

Of course, it would be unfair to say Diamond is the only problem for Dignitas, and it would be unrealistic to expect Poome to come in and solve everything going wrong for the team. With the six wins already in their pocket, Dignitas is pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot unless they lose every remaining game they have from now on. Considering this it seems like the change was made with the playoffs in mind, but it would be hard to imagine Poome changing Dignitas from a fringe playoff team to a contender for one of the Worlds spots.

Fans can watch Poome and Dignitas in action during the Week 5 of the LCS Summer Split as they take on TSM, NRG and Immortals.
