Planet Crafter Tips and Tricks
Surviving and terraforming the planet are your two main goals in Planet Crafter, both related to each other. As a result, you will have to make sure you manage to stay alive and terraform the planet. To be fair, the game lets you choose what difficulty to play on, so the difficulty of the game will depend a lot on that. If you decide to play the “Relaxed” mode, for example, you won't have to worry about losing your resources if you die.
Note: The “Relaxed” mode can be your choice if you are not a veteran of this genre and want to understand well what the game mechanics are. You can then always create a new world with a higher level of difficulty at any time you want.
Find Resources
The most important thing to do in Planet Crafter is to track down the resources you will need to survive and create machinery. In fact, as soon as you spawn into the game, assuming that you have chosen the standard spawn, you will have at your disposal all the resources you will need to take your first steps in the game right nearby. These resources are plentiful, so you don't have to worry about stockpiling, you can just go out and collect them when you need them.
However, as you progress through the game, you will need increasingly different resources, so you will have to be prepared for long expeditions. Resources are a fundamental component of the game, without which you will not be able to achieve the goal of making the planet you are on livable. So go ahead and scout, without forgetting that survival is important.
Note: At the beginning of the game, you will have to find the Iridium, but it will not be found near the spawn point. In this article, we explained where to find it and how to build a Heater.
Bring Enough Water, Food, and Oxygen with You
The other fundamental aspect of Planet Crafter is survival. You won't get anywhere if you don't have water, food, and oxygen. Luckily for you, being able to create water and oxygen is a very simple thing, you can even do it right away. As a result, you shouldn't worry much about these two resources.
Note: To craft water, you will need 1x Ice, while to craft oxygen, you will need 2x Cobalt.
As far as food is concerned, however, the situation is different. You will not be able to produce your own food until you have unlocked a Food Grower. However, in order to unlock this machine, you will have to meet specific terraforming requirements, which you will only be able to satisfy after installing a certain number of machines. So, in the very first hours of the game, what you will have to do is explore.
Exploration is very important in a game like Planet Crafter and if you want to get enough food to survive until you are able to build your own Food Grower, you have no other option. What you will have to do is simply search in the blue crates that are scattered around the map or inside old abandoned stations. Although to a lesser extent than water and oxygen, we assure you that you will also be able to find the food you need to survive.
Furthermore, as if that wasn't enough, in crates and old abandoned stations, you will also be able to find seeds to plant once you have the Food Grower. They, in fact, are your main source of food in Planet Crafter. So, don't worry too much about the food aspect either, because you shouldn't have many problems.
However, when you decide to leave to explore the game world, make sure you have at least 3 or 4 canisters of oxygen and water, as well as a couple of bags of food. Obviously, a lot depends on how far you want to go, but in any case, never take less than this quantity if you don't want to risk dying.
Note: Your health bar will empty much slower than your water and oxygen bar, so this is why we recommend bringing less food.
Build Living Components in Different Places
At the beginning of the game, you won't know where to build your bases and that's normal. You'll need to do a bit of exploring first to figure out the best places to put down roots and build a home base. For this reason, therefore, we recommend that you build several small outposts in various points of the game map, perhaps near strategic points that you have identified that are useful for farming certain resources that are more difficult to use.
Once you have started building the basic machinery you will need to terraform the planet, you can then decide to move and build your base in a better place. But in the beginning, you shouldn't be afraid to build in different positions. Obviously, don't build a large, super-functional base; it will also be enough to build a single Living Component and insert a Vegetube, a Heater, a Crafter, and the screens to view the statistics inside. Obviously, don't forget to also include a Drill and a Wind Turbine outside.
Note: Every time you build something, you can decide to delete it at any time (provided you have the Deconstruct Chip) in order to receive back the resources you have used.
Explore the Map
We have already mentioned it, but it is worth repeating. Exploration on Planet Crafter is very important. Get ready for your expeditions and set out at the right time to discover new territories. The Planet Crafter game map is quite large and there are different areas to visit and explore. Don't stay in the initial area for too long. Once you've started to get comfortable, move away from that area to see what else there is to discover in the game world.
Obviously, as we have already told you previously, do not start out unprepared. Always bring sufficient supplies for the trip with you. Furthermore, it is good practice to build a few small bases every now and then to have the possibility of having infinite oxygen and also being able to create other resources that you may need.
Note: Inside the Living Components, your oxygen bar will never empty, and therefore they can be used to recharge it. However, that of health and water will still continue to be empty.
Upgrade Your Equipment
Finally, don't forget to upgrade your equipment. As you terraform the planet you are on, you will have ways to unlock blueprints to have access to increasingly better (as well as different) equipment and machinery. So, as soon as you have the chance, upgrade your Backpack, Oxygen Tank, and Exoskeleton. By doing so, you will be able to carry more objects and chips, as well as have more oxygen.
Furthermore, always keep an eye on the machinery you unlock. Craft the higher-level ones, even if they require more resources, because you will need them to advance the terraformation percentage faster and therefore unlock new things and make the plants habitable. Ultimately, your goal is to bring life to the planet, so never lose sight of your goal.
