Overwatch Doomfist Guide, The Unique Tank

Many people who play Overwatch  2 daily are interested in finding a hero that allows them to get to their desired rating. Some people decide to focus on tanks, but most players prefer to use different kinds of DPS. Read our Overwatch Doomfist Guide for more information on how to win as Doomfist.

Even though people often choose other thanks, there's no arguing that Doomfirst is one of the options that can be incredibly dangerous. He is one of the most underrated heroes in pretty much any bracket. Even though the hero may not look that powerful on paper, he can deal insane amounts of damage for a tank. Unlike other Overwatch 2 Tank heroes who rely on consistent damage, Doomfirst is about bursting a target.

Despite his uniqueness, the hero has one major flaw related to the fact that he is difficult to master. Every OW 2 hero has specifics, but Doomfirst requires you to be aware of all sorts of things to be effective. So, let’s review a few tips to help you make the most while using him.

Aside from one-shotting people, you can actually help your enemies

At first sight, it seems like Doomfist is a classic Tank hero whose job is to soak up as much damage as possible. This is true up to a point, but many people forget that the hero can help his team a lot.

Due to the nature of Doomfist’s abilities, he can actually CC a lot of enemy heroes and keep them away from specific objectives. Whether you are using Rocket Punch or Seismic Slam, you can easily push enemies away from a given location or slow  them down. This allows your team to regroup and even start pushing.

With that being said, you need to be careful what you’re doing because Doomfist can die pretty fast for a tank. Despite being having a defensive ability, he does not have as much HP and other Overwatch 2 tanks. Furthermore, he needs to manage his cooldown because he can die really fast if enemies are paying attention to him.

It will take time until you learn how to utilize his cooldowns to your advantage. Once that happens, you will be able to kill many opponents with little to no effort and  tank some damage. Speaking of tanks, one of the support players usually pays close attention to Doomfist and needs to help him.

Plan your next move

One of the things we’ve mentioned about Doomfist is that he deals a lot of damage. He also has several abilities that allow him to escape when needed. However, most people use them offensively and don’t have anything to rely on when it matters other than Power Block.

To avoid finding yourself in a situation where you don’t have an ult, a healer and any abilities, you need to plan your next move. In other words, do not waste all of your cooldowns to kill someone just so you can die afterward. Although this might be worth it in some situations, typically, this is not the case.

A cool trick that you can use to go all in and escape afterward is to use your ultimate. Doomfist’s ult seems perfect on paper, but it is usually not that effective unless the hero combines it with something else. However, you don’t need to use it to do damage because when you press it, your cooldowns will be way shorter.

This means you can start a fight, use every ability you have, and then have them again in just a couple of seconds. Although this is only possible when you have ult, you can kill at least a few people with it.

Learn how to jump when using your Rocket Punch

Doomfist’s abilities are very interesting and can deal a lot of damage. Although most people are fascinated by his ultimate, we think that Rocket Punch is probably his most intriguing ability.

What makes Rocket Punch so important is that it can be used offensively and defensively, depending on the situation. In both cases, the ability allows Doomfist to shorten the distance between him and his target or a given location.

Speaking of distance, did you know that you can jump just before the ability’s animation ends and get extra range? That’s right, many people use this technique all the time, so cover even more ground when needed. This is usually applied when you want to run, but there are cases where you can also use it offensively.

To put this option to the test, simply use your Rocket Punch, and once the animation comes to an end, you have to press your jump key. You will probably mess it up a couple of times, but once you learn how it works, you will see that it is beneficial.

Don't forget that enemies can empower your Rockte Punch when you take damage, which means it will be more efficient. That said, there are situations in Overwatch 2 where you need to use your punch without the boost.

Use your Hand Cannon in between your abilities

Doomfist’s abilities are so interesting to watch and use that many people forget they have a primary fire mode. Also known as Hand Cannon, this ability can do up to 66 damage per shot, which is a lot for a hero that primarily relies on melee damage.

Like most things in Overwatch 2, this hero’s abilities can deal a lot of damage, but landing the combo might not always be enough to kill a given target. That’s why you should remember to use your Hand Cannon whenever possible.

Shooting at people from miles away won’t do anything, and it will alert them that Doomfist is in the game, and he will try to dive them. However, once you use Rocket Punch, you should always use your Hand Cannon to deal even more damage. When you combine this with a regular melee attack, it should be more than enough to kill almost any target in the game. Of course, you should only do it when it's safe because your a tank and your primary role is to do pressure, not chasing people.

Final Thoughts

Doomfist is undoubtedly a hero that stands out. His incredible damage and the fact that he is one of the unique tanks in the game make him the go-to option for many people. With that being said, only a few OW players can use him properly, so make sure you are one of them.
