We take you through some tips and tricks for Overwatch's gun-toting cowboy hero, Cassidy.
Cassidy is one of Overwatch’s most controversial heroes. Besides the fact that he is incredibly popular in every skill bracket, the hero also plays a crucial role for many professional teams. Due to his high damage output from close and long-range, Cassidy can fit loads of setups.
One of the reasons why we think Cassidy is a controversial hero is because of his name change. As you know, the hero was known as McCree, but Blizzard decided to change it after an argument with one of their employees.
We already know what Cassidy will look like in Overwatch 2. He is one of the heroes that have a new ability, which will allow him to deal even more damage. Although we have yet to see the setups where Cassidy will shine, we’ve included several evergreen tips and tricks to help you make the most while playing. Almost everything you are about to read will apply to Overwatch 2.

Always try to land headshots
It probably goes without saying, but one of the reasons why Cassidy is so strong is because of his insane damage output. This is one of the heroes that can delete anyone in seconds, especially if he lands a headshot. That’s one of the reasons why you should always try to do that, no matter the heroes you go up against.
Sadly, landing a headshot is not always easy, especially on some targets. Some people must practice a lot before learning how to land their shots. Needless to say, Cassidy is one of the heroes that need to be good in order to have an impact. Missing most of your shots means you won’t do enough pressure and your opponents will be able to push or defend.
Don’t wait for the big ultimate, use it when it is needed
High Noon is undoubtedly one of the most interesting ultimates in Overwatch. Killing multiple enemies in a matter of seconds is extremely satisfying, which explains why people always try to land the big ults. There are cases where this is possible, but most opponents know how to dodge it, so the chances of landing something like this are slim.
Many people make the mistake of waiting for the entire game to use their ult because they want to make the most of it. This is usually not a good idea because High Noon will have an impact even if you kill just a few of your opponents. For example, killing your opponent’s healer will allow your team to do much more damage and is usually enough to wipe the entire team.
Know how to flank
Flanking is one of the most annoying things in Overwatch. There is nothing worse than having to deal with a flanking DPS who knows what he’s doing. Even if he doesn’t get kills, he will constantly pressure you, which will impact your game.
Overwatch has some pretty good flankers, and one of them is Cassidy. He can make a real difference for his team in many situations, especially on some maps. Due to his high damage output, the hero can quickly kill the supports in seconds and give his team a huge advantage.
The bad news is that flanking is not as easy as it seems. Even though Cassidy is not the slowest hero in the game, he is not that mobile either. This means that people who want to flank need to know how to position themselves. Otherwise, they will get caught and die.
Speaking of dying, there are some situations where you shouldn’t be afraid of it while using Cassidy. Due to the hero’s high damage output, he can usually kill squishies pretty fast. You can use this to your advantage and try to prioritize your opponents’ main healer and DPS. Even if you die after killing them, this should be enough to secure your team an advantage.
Always take advantage of your opponent's mistakes
The next thing we’d like to pay attention to is your opponents’ mistakes and the fact that you should always take advantage of them. This applies to every hero, but it is extremely important for Cassidy due to his potential impact on the game.
Since you have more base HP than most other DPS heroes, you must use this to your advantage. Always watch your opponents’ cooldowns and whether they have something that can kill you. Once they waste their abilities, try to play aggressively and score at least one kill.
There are many examples of how you can use Cassidy’s damage to your advantage. For example, if you are playing against a Widowmaker who is out of position or moving, you can easily rush and kill her in seconds. The hero can kill you with a single shot, but only if her weapon is loaded and she lands a headshot. Needless to say, she won’t be able to do that if she is running.
Hold on to your Roll for as long as possible
One of the things we’ve mentioned earlier is that Cassidy is not the most mobile hero in the game. In fact, Roll is the only ability that gives the hero some chances of escaping from a bad position. Of course, some people use this ability offensively because it also resets their gun’s cooldown.
Aside from the situations where Combat Roll has to be used to deal more damage, you should try to hold on to it for as long as possible before using it defensively. If you use it for no reason, your opponents will do everything they can to punish you for this mistake and kill you in seconds.
The best thing you could do to save this ability for when you need it is to have a good position. Ideally, you should stay behind your tank because this will allow him to soak as much damage as possible. In the meantime, you will be able to land your shots and punish your opponents for playing too aggressively.
Of course, it all comes down to the map and the opponents you have to play against. People who know what they’re doing will use your mistake to their advantage. However, if your opponents aren’t that good, you can get away with it.
