Tanks in Overwatch 2 feel much more robust than before and have a key role when it comes down to winning games. Naturally, players want to make the most of them, which is why it is time to take a look at one of the most interesting and funniest tanks in the game. This Overwatch 2 Wrecking Ball guide will help you learn more about this hero and show you all of the things you must know.
One of the essential things to note about this Overwatch 2 hero is that he is not as popular as others among lower-skill brackets. Sure, you can find some people using him, but since he is among the most complex Overwatch 2 tanks, he is not the go-to option. That said, Wrecking Ball can be powerful, especially if you know how to use him. That’s why it is time to go through some of the things you should know about him.

Overview
Unlike some tanks in Overwatch 2, such as Orisa, Wrecking Ball didn’t receive that many changes. In fact, the hero remains relatively the same, but he has access to the new Overwatch 2 tank passive that makes every hero feel stronger.
Aside from the passive ability, the hero has extra base armor and HP. Similar to D.Va, WB received 50 extra HP and 50 extra armor, making him even more annoying to kill.
Besides this boost, the hero’s adaptive shield now has a 10m radius instead of 8, and his HP per target is 100 instead of 75. The idea behind this change was to compensate for the lack of a 6th hero in the game. As you know, Overwatch 2 follows a 5v5 format instead of a 6v6 one.
Lastly, the hero’s Roll knockback is increased by 36%, meaning he is much more dangerous when engaging in a team fight than before. This ability can do wonders on some maps because it may allow the hero to knock off enemies.
Tip – This hero focuses on heavy bursts
One of the big things that sets apart some ball players from others is the way they play. For some reason, people believe that this hero is like D.Va and has to be in the middle of the fight all the time. Even though Wrecking Ball can be extremely difficult to kill, the hero requires you to know what you’re doing to succeed. Sadly, staying in the middle of a fight is not one of them.
According to some of the best Overwatch 2 tank players in the world, this hero should focus on doing bursts and killing important enemies. This Wrecking Ball Overwatch 2 guide won’t go through the hero’s abilities, but he definitely has what it takes to kill any DPS or Support.
Speaking of killing something, once you go in with everything you have and fail to land a kill, you should try to run away and wait for your cooldowns. The bad news is that many people make the mistake of staying in one place even with no active cooldowns. Needless to say, this usually has a negative effect on their win rate.
Tip – Ball players have to be aware of Sombra
Every Overwatch 2 hero has some counters, and this one is definitely not an exception. Even though Wrecking Ball is pretty strong against most DPS and Tank heroes in the game, he has several weaknesses. Sadly, Sombra is one of them, which is bad news because the latter is among the popular DPS heroes in OW 2. Even though there was a nerf that affected the deadly assassin, she continues to be more popular than Tracer and other similar DPS.
If you have to play against Sombra with Wrecking Ball, your first priority should be to locate her position and try to kill her as soon as possible. Once you get hacked, you will become an easy kill for pretty much any hero in the game. So, either try to eliminate her or take fights away from her.
Tip – Wrecking Ball can get away with more things than before
One of the key things in learning how to play Wrecking Ball is knowing when you can get away from certain things. This usually requires a lot of experience, but since this is the most mobile hero in the game, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that you can get away with a lot of things.
The most dangerous weapon against high-mobility heroes in every game is CC. For better or worse, Overwatch 2 doesn't have that many CC abilities, meaning you can go in and away with little to no effort. This was not the case in Overwatch, where heroes like Brigitte and Cassidy could disable you long enough to land a kill. Nowadays, the only thing that can get you in trouble (or at least the main one) is Sombra’s hack.
The fact there aren’t a lot of CCs in Overwatch 2 means that you should take full advantage of it while playing with Wrecking Ball. The hero is easily one of the best in such situations, so always keep that in mind when deciding which tank to go for.
Tip – It's always a good idea to find an enemy that is split from their team
As mentioned in this Overwatch 2 Wrecking Ball guide, this is a hero that can easily kill almost any target in a 1v1 scenario. That said, most enemy heroes will try to stay close to their team so that they can avoid fighting you in a 1v1 matchup. That’s why you should always take advantage of situations where you find enemies that are alone and kill them.
Although Ball is really good in a direct clash with another enemy, this applies to pretty much any Overwatch 2 tank. Following the changes, these heroes are much stronger than before and they can deal with almost any enemy hero.
