With Season 2, let's take a look at Widowmaker, one of the most popular DPS in the game.
With a new hero, a new map, and tons of new modes and cosmetic items. We are unsure whether there will be any changes to some of our heroes, which means that some of the S-heroes will continue to shine.
Even though Widowmaker is not the best DPS in Overwatch 2 right now, there is no arguing that the hero has a key role in the game. Following the buffs that Widow received in Overwatch 2, the hero became way stronger. In fact, players like Kenzo make Widowmaker feel overpowered.
That said, this is not your average DPS, meaning the hero requires a specific set of skills to be good at it. We won’t discuss her abilities or playstyle because this article will focus on a few tips that will help you win.

Train your aim
Being a good aimer in Overwatch 2 can make a huge difference, especially when playing with certain heroes. Unsurprisingly, Widowmaker is the hero that requires you to know what you’re doing to be effective. Missing your shots and landing headshots can make a night and day difference, no matter whether you play competitively or casually.
You can watch all sorts of videos and read tons of guides, but the only way to train your aim is to play as much as possible. The bad news is that you will probably lose a lot of games while doing it. If you want to avoid this, you can use some of the custom maps and try to land headshots all the time.
Some Widowmaker players focus on body shots, but the only way to be really effective with the hero is by aiming for the head. Besides the fact that you have to practice a lot, you also have to have optimal mouse settings.
We recommend you warm up before you start playing because this will allow you to be way more effective. This is common among CSGO players, but professional Overwatch players also do it all the time.
The settings are key
If you to start playing with Widowmaker and have a good start in Season 2, you need to make sure you’re using the best settings. Since this is Overwatch 2’s only “real sniper”, you have to make some changes when playing with her to hit your shots. This is where some people have problems because they start copying other players.
Copying a given pro’s settings might be a good idea, but only in specific scenarios. The fact that something works for a given player doesn’t mean that it will be good for you. Everyone has his personal preferences, so always experiment to see what works best for you.
Of course, you need to ensure you've enabled a couple of important settings. For example, people using Widowmaker on PC need to enable the High Precision Mouse Input and play with zoom sensitivity to see what works best. Most players use Aim Sense while zooming of 37.89%, but there are exceptions. Your aim should be to have the same sensitivity while zoomed and while you are shooting with Widowmaker’s left mouse click.
Watch the best Widowmaker players and see what they’re doing differently
Most people who play with Widowmaker have games where they hit every shot. However, others are not so lucky and can miss almost everything, which means they won’t have any impact on the game. To avoid finding yourself in this situation, you need to be consistent, which is not easy, even if you are among the best Overwatch 2 players in the world.
One of the things that you can do to improve your efficiency and prepare for Season 2 of Overwatch 2 is to watch the best players in action. There are loads of top-tier OW players on Twitch, but you can also find different videos. For example, players like Kenzo are notorious for being one of the best Widowmakers in the world. Unsurprisingly, people who keep an eye on players like that can always learn something new.
In some cases, you can also watch your own replays of games where you’ve performed really well. Analyze what you’ve done and how you’ve played and try to copy it.
Know your limits
As mentioned, Overwatch 2 Season 2 will include a new map and a new hero. Judging from what we already know about him, he won’t be a threat to Widowmaker because he is a tank and will mostly focus on enemies near him. Nevertheless, there are many other Overwatch 2 heroes that can be a problem for her.
Widowmaker relies on staying far away from the fight and picking off Supports and DPS by landing headshots. Unsurprisingly, this hero is not good in close-range combat, so players need to know their limits. They must keep an eye on certain enemies’ cooldowns and be ready to run or escape when needed. For example, it is not a good idea to fight against Winston or D.Va, who jump on top of you, because you will most likely die.
Having good positioning is one of the most important things to keep in mind because it will allow you to be more successful. Ideally, you should try to be as unpredictable as possible and land the important kills immediately. Widowmaker is definitely not a hero that you want to use for Trash Damage because your job is to kill some of the enemy’s most important DPS/Supports.
Conclusion
Season 2 will be available soon, and we can’t wait to see everything new. While it is true that Widowmaker is an amazing hero, you should focus on other options because she is not S-Tier. DPS players can have a much easier time with the likes of Sojourn, whereas tanks can rip through their opponents with the likes of Roadhog.
