Overwatch 2 Pharah Guide – How to Play and Best Duos

Pharah, one of the best AoE damage dealers in the game, is easy to learn, but hard to master.

Pharah is an interesting hero for OW because she is not that popular among the higher-ranked players. Since the likes of Widowmaker and Hanzo can easily counter her, most people don’t bother picking her. However, she can be an excellent option, especially since the Overwatch 2 tanks no longer have powerful barriers.

While it is true that Pharah might seem easy to play, the hero has a lot of specifics that make it stand out. That’s why this in-depth Overwatch 2 Pharah guide will walk you through everything you need to know.

We expect Pharah to be one of the top-tier DPS heroes in the current meta. Don't forget that there are loads of betting sites where you can wager on Overwatch 2, and many teams there will definitely put the hero to the test.

Overview

Pharah is a DPS hero that relies on her AoE damage. She is notorious for being able to “fly”, which makes her incredibly fun to play. Unlike some of the Overwatch 2 heroes we’ve covered so far, this one does not offer that many new things. The hero remains relatively the same, but there are two critical changes you should be aware of.

Aside from the Overwatch 2 DPS passive bonus, Pharah’s Rocket Launcher reload starts 0.25 seconds faster when the weapon is out of ammo. On top of that, her Concussive Blast now deals 30 damage and has an additional knockback if it directly hits a target. In other words, Pharah is among the few Overwatch 2 heroes that have several buffs.

Always keep an eye on Hover Jets

Pressing the right mouse click while playing with Pharah will allow you to hover in the air until you run out of fuel. Unsurprisingly, people use this ability in combination with the hero’s Jump Jet to keep themselves in the air.

While it is true that you should do this whenever possible, you have to be aware of your surroundings and only use this ability when needed. In other words, do not hover in the air for no reason because you may run out of it when you need it the most.

One of the things you can do if you want to surprise your enemies is to jump into the air and slowly descend while spamming them with your left mouse click. Don’t forget that Pharah has one of the highest damage outputs in the game, so the hero can easily kill almost any target in seconds.

It is probably a good idea to practice your Hover Jet usage before you start playing against other people. Instead of Jumping and pressing the right mouse click, you can tap it and let go for a second or two. Although this will affect how you “fly”, you can save tons of fuel.

Use your Concussive Blast to land killing blows

While it is true that Concussive Blast is almost the same as in Overwatch, the new game definitely made this ability more interesting. Aside from the knockback effect, this thing now deals 25 additional damage. It may not seem like a lot, but there are cases where it might be enough to land a kill. So, keep an eye on your target, and don’t be scared to use this ability.

In addition to the damage, we also have to mention that Concussive Shot has an extra knockback effect if you land a direct hit. Even though this is not that easy, you can secure tons of free kills if your aim is on point.  There are loads of maps where you can knock back heroes and kill them immediately.

While we are on the topic of knockbacks, it is important to know that you can use this ability to jump or push yourself forward. Simply turn around and use the ability on the ground, and you will be launched in the opposite direction you are facing. This may not seem that useful, but it will come in handy in some situations.

Take a good look at your opponents

As mentioned at the beginning of this Overwatch 2 Pharah guide, this is a hero that can deal a lot of damage. The fact that she can fly makes her incredibly strong against various heroes, including every tank and some DPS. However, this also makes her an easy target, especially if the enemy team wants to deal with her.

To avoid dying immediately, you must keep an eye on your enemies because they might decide to get a hero that can counter you. If you notice that someone picked things like Widowmaker, Hanzo, Soldier, etc., check their position and kill them as soon as possible. After all, you will be the number 1 target.

Do not wait for the perfect ult

One of the common mistakes among Overwatch 2 players who like Pharah is to wait until they catch at least 4 or even 5 heroes before using their ultimate. Although everyone wants to wipe the entire team with Missle Barrage, this is not as easy as it seems.

Good players will always be aware of your ult and try to avoid it by not grouping up. In other words, don’t be afraid to use your ultimate even on one or two players, especially if they are important. Since Overwatch 2 is players in a 5v5 format, every kill can be crucial.

Pharah Best Duos

One of the last things we’d like to point out in this Overwatch 2 article about how to play with Pharah is that the hero works in all sorts of combos. Unsurprisingly, the most popular one is with Mercy because the two heroes can fly together and deal insane amounts of damage. Sadly, this combo is not as good in Overwatch 2 as in the previous game because healers have to pay more attention to the tanks.

Pharah is also a good hero to have alongside Echo because both can fly and do tons of damage. However, picking these two heroes will leave your allies in a 3v5 scenario, which is not always a good situation.

Aside from these options, Pharah is also good with Hanzo and a couple of other options. We can also add Zarya because the two heroes have some of the best team-fight ults in the game.
