Here’s what to expect from Overwatch 2 Season 6 after its arrival
The waiting is over. After a few weeks, Blizzard has dropped Overwatch 2 Season 6 on August 10, and it’s safe to say that this is one of the biggest updates we had in years. The new patch has tons of new things, a new hero, and loads of balance changes that we will take a look at right now.

Overwatch 2: Invasion
Blizzard calls the new patch Overwatch 2: Invasion, and it brings a lot of new things we can put to the test. We will have the chance to win all sorts of cosmetic rewards from the Invasion Battle Pass, as well as new skins. Furthermore, Overwatch 2: Invasion also brings a new PVP game mode called “Flashpoint”: Of course, Season 6 of Overwatch 2 will also give us access to a new hero called Illari. Speaking of the devil, let’s learn more about her.
New Hero – Illari
According to the patch notes, Illari is harnessing the sun's power to strike down her enemies. The new Overwatch 2 Season 6 hero is a support that has a lot of interesting abilities. She has a medium-range healing beam and an ultimate that fires an explosive ball of solar enemy. Enemies that are affected by it will take damage and will be slowed down. It sort of resembles D.Va’s ultimate, but this one is much easier to pull off. Don’t forget to read out in-depth Illari Overwatch 2 guide for more information.
Flashpoint – New Game Mode
Overwatch 2: Invasion has a couple of new things, as mentioned earlier, and one of them is the new game mode called Flashpoint. The latter will be available on two of the biggest map in the game – the New Junk City and Suravasa. The idea here is that both teams need to pursue a central objective called Flashpoint, so the idea is to capture it before your opponents.
Once your team captures this point, you will begin to progress, similar to the control game. However, the progress here is much faster, which means that every potential mistake can be fatal. Your team will win a point once the Flashpoint reaches 100%. Of course, there will be overtime if someone is contesting the point when it reaches 99%.
Unlike the control maps, where securing a point means you’ve won the round, this will not be the case in Overwatch 2 Season 6. Securing the Flashpoint will give you a point, but it means that you need to go to the next one that will be activated on the map. The spawn locations will be around the map, but they will be to equal distance from the Flashpoint that’s currently active, which means that both teams will have good chances of securing it.
There will be 5 Flashpoints in general, so your team needs to capture at least 3 of them in order to win. Remember that people playing Overwatch 2: Invasion can access this mode only while playing Unranked games. It will be available in Competitive Play later this season.
Invasion Story Mission
If you want to have fun and try something new, you can purchase the special Invasion Bundle from the in-game shop. Choosing this item will allow you to play Story Missions, which means that this is Overwatch 2’s PvE that we’ve all been waiting for.
The story missions will require you and your friends to fight against Null Sector. Once you complete everything, you will unlock Sojourn and get legendary skin.
To access the Story Missions, you need to go Play menu and look for Winto’s Desk. Once you start playing in these missions, you can also unlock various movies, entires, special kinds of details, and even clues that will give you an idea of what to expect from Overwatch 2 in the future.
King’s Row Underworld – Limited Time Event
Overwatch 2 Season 6 will also allow players to access an exclusive limited-time event called King’s Row Underworld. This is a co-op event that’s free to play, and Blizzard will add new challenges every week. This special event will be available from August 10 until September 5, so you have around a month to experience everything it offers.
General Changes
Alongside everything else mentioned in this article, Overwatch 2: Invasion also has a lot of general changes. Here’s a quick summary of everything new.
- Firing Range – People who want to practice their range can do that using the new mode. It will allow you to fire at large, small, moving, or stationary targets so you can learn how to place your crosshair and how to shoot.
- New Challenges – Overwatch 2 Season 6 will introduce a lot of new Weekly Challenges. For example, there is a challenge called Earn 8 Progression Levels, which will give 150 OW credits to buy items from the hero gallery.
There are also changes to the Overwatch Coins reward, and Season 6 gives us access to Player Progression challenges for all heroes, allowing you to win a special icon. You can also find new story missions for “Invasion” located in the Lifetime tab.
- There are changes to the Ping System. For example, you can now ping the health packs.
- On-Fire now has a 4s cooldown to Blazing so that the sound effects do not play too frequently. The minimum Blazing time is increased to 10s, and the visual effects for Blazing are different.
- Players will need 50 wins to appear in the Top 500 Leaderboard rather than 25.
- Overwatch 2 Season 6 allows players to choose from 2 types of chat settings – Friendly and Mature.
