Overwatch 2 in 2023 – 6 Things We Are Looking Forward To

The 6 things we're most looking forward to seeing in Overwatch 2 now 2023 is here.

2022 was a very important year for every Overwatch fan because Blizzard finally gave us access to Overwatch 2. The highly anticipated successor of our favorite game brought tons of new things, and it quickly became trendy. Even after the initial hype was over, players from all over the world kept playing on a daily basis.

After the end of Season 1 in Overwatch 2, Blizzard made many changes to Season 2 by adding a new map, a new hero, and balance changes. Furthermore, we should expect to see even more new things in the next couple of weeks. Speaking of the future, most Overwatch 2 players can agree that 2023 should be the best year for the game.

There are tons of things that we’re looking forward to, which is why it is time to take a look at some of them. We are not sure whether all of the things you are about to read will take place in 2023, but hopefully, we will be able to experience everything this year.

Battle for Olympus and Lunar Event

Overwatch is notorious for allowing players to take part in all kinds of events. We’ve seen tons of things over the years, and it seems like 2023 won’t be any different. In fact, the first big event of the year will start on January 5, and it is called “Battle for Olympus”. This mini-event will last around 2 weeks because it will end on January 19.

The idea of this game mode is that you can choose from several heroes, all of which will have new skins inspired by Greek mythology. Aside from playing for fun, you will have to complete different challenges. Those who succeed will receive a special skin for Mercy.

In addition to the Battle for Olympus, we also expect January of 2023 to give us access to the special Lunar Event. The latter was available in the last couple of years, and it gave players access to tons of cool skins that were only available during that time.

Season 3

Although there is still time until Season 2 comes to an end, we expect Season 3 to arrive in early February. Similar to the previous ones, it will most likely include a lot of new things. However, some people think that Overwatch 2 Season 3 won’t have any new heroes because we will only see a new one in every even season. In other words, Season 4 should be the one that will grant us access to an entirely new hero.

Of course, the absence of a new hero does not mean the new season won’t be worth it. On the contrary, we expect to see a new map and even new game modes. This was something that Blizzard said they’d focus on in 2023, so we wouldn’t be surprised if we see them early in 2023.

The new Overwatch League

Although many people play Overwatch 2 for fun and don’t keep track of the professional scene, this is Blizzard’s leading eSport. Consequently, the company focuses a lot on it and wants to promote it.

The 2022 OWL was fun to watch because the teams were neck and neck the entire team. It seems like the 2023 version will be even more interesting because we already know that there will be two new teams:

  • Las Vegas Eternals
  • Seoul Infernal

What’s interesting about these two teams is that they aren’t exactly new. Those who’ve followed the Overwatch League in 2022 know that the Las Vegas Eternals were called the Paris Eternals, whereas Seoul Infernal were known as the Philadelphia Fusion.

Of course, the OWL will also grant us access to new skins and something special related to last year’s champions – Dallas Fuel. Make sure to keep an eye on what is to come because we expect to see at least a couple of new things.

Blizzcon

Whether you like Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft, or any of Blizzard’s other games, you will be interested in Blizzcon 2023. Although the event will most likely take place around October or November of 2023, we expect to learn more about it around April or May.

Aside from the hype about Blizzard’s new games and updates, Overwatch 2 fans could expect the event to give them access to new in-game modes and options. We don’t know whether this will be the case, but since Blizzard will be interested in promoting its game, those things might be around the corner.

PVE

While we’re on the topic of Overwatch 2 and events that people are looking forward to, we have to address the elephant in the room. The so-called PVE mode was announced several months ago, and everyone is eager to put it to the test. Blizzard decided not to release it in 2022, but we believe we will see it in 2023.

We have yet to find any official information about the PvE mode, so it will be interesting to see what Blizzard will give us access to. Regardless of what we get, it is safe to say that people will be happy because they will have access to something new.

Overwatch 2 World Cup

Unsurprisingly, the return of the Overwatch World Cup is going to be one of the most anticipated events of the year. We’ve already covered this event in detail (or at least the information we know), so make sure to check it out here. Needless to say, we will include even more details in the future.

Aside from everything we’ve mentioned so far about the new things that we expect, 2023 will also give us access to many new maps and heroes. Of course, the standard events that were available in previous years will also most likely be available this year. So, make sure to follow us for all the latest info and news from Overwatch 2.
