Rivals clashed as the NRG vs Team Liquid bo1 kicked off the second day of Swiss in Worlds 2023
Team Liquid had a rough start yesterday after their brush with Faker's team. And after licking their wounds, they sought their first Worlds win in Swiss stage against rivals they knew all too well. In this LCS civil war, lane counters was the main focus especially after NRG pulled out their Senna-TK pocket pick comp. All in all, the LCS #1 seed was going to be hard to push out of lane, so there was a ton of pressure for TL to find leads elsewhere.
NRG vs Team Liquid Recap
The Palafox vs APA rivalry set the stage on fire as both LCS teams reunited for a regional revenge match that was nowhere near close.
NRG spilled first blood in mid, and after Dhokla's Jax found a pick, the team enjoyed a small but powerful lead in the earlygame that let them chase TL out of Herald before the 10-minute mark.
TL couldn't keep up in bottom lane, which forced Summit to play conservatively in a 2k gold deficit. Moreover, NRG saved their teleports to dissuade Pyosik to make any plays near top jungle. Behind in gold and behind in turret plates, Team Liquid needed to find new angles, and they had to find them fast.
Palafox's Orianna couldn't be matched when his jungler Nidalee had presence near mid, but TL was finally able to find their second elimination just after 15 minutes. After a failed contest for Rift Herald, APA and co. had to switch lanes to mitigate their 2k gold deficit.
After a scrappy series of events, TL was able to delay NRG's try on Baron while controlling their losses well. At this point, only Yeon's Kalista had enough damage to make a dent on NRG. All the while, NRG were held at arm's length while the rest of Liquid tried to funnel as much gold towards their ADC.
With more control on the jungle, Pyosik got to claim 2 drakes before his team fell in another clash, resulting in NRG claiming Nashor in 25 minutes. “Palafaker” for the win.
After a few more clashes, and a 15-kill deficit, there was nothing else to do for NRG but to finish in a strong spot.
