Mobile Legends Bang Bang: All Rank Tiers Explained

Planning on testing out your skills in the Mobile Legends Bang Bang? Here’s what you need to know about the different Rank Tiers

Mobile Legends Bang Bang, or MLBB as the aficionados call it, is a MOBA title that’s exclusive to your smartphone. The best way to describe it would be League of Legends but for your mobile.

Since its release in 2016, the popularity of the game has risen significantly. The games are quick, the champions are fun, and frankly, the game runs well on pretty much any smartphone. And with massive tournaments being held worldwide and a huge player base, this is THE go-to MOBA for people who don’t want to sit through long games in Dota 2 or LOL.

Like its big brothers in the genre, MLBB has an extensive competitive mode that lets you truly test your skills and make a name for yourself. For new players, understanding how the different rank tiers work in the game might be a bit confusing.

To that end, let’s take a look at all the rank tiers that are available in Mobile Legends Bang Bang for you to conquer.

MLBB can be a confusing game at the start, with it throwing multiple achievements and rewards your way the moment you start playing. It’s all part of the Tutorial experience, and once you get past all that, the game truly opens up.

Unlike other MOBAs, where you need to have sunk a particular number of hours to unlock the Ranked Matchmaking, in Mobile Legends, you get access to competitive mode as soon as your profile reaches level 8. That can be done pretty much the same day you download the game.

Now, understanding the rank tiers is a whole other matter. There are seven different Ranks in Mobile Legend Bang Bang, and the ranks are also split up into multiple divisions. You need to clear each division if you want to get to the next rank.

This game uses a win/lose star point system for you to progress in ranked matchmaking. The requirements for promotion to a new rank are also different as you go higher up the tiers.

Here’s an in-depth look at the different Rank Tiers in Mobile Legends:

1. Warrior

  • Divisions: III, II, I
  • Star Requirement: 3

At the bottom of the barrel is the Warrior rank. When you unlock the ranked matchmaking in the game, you’ll land on Warrior III. From this tier, you need to get 3 stars to get to the next rank. In other words, win three games and move on to Warrior II, and 3 more to get to Warrior I.

In the Warrior rank, losing games does not result in losing stars. So, getting to the next rank is pretty easy as long as you keep playing.

2. Elite

  • Divisions ( III, II, I)
  • Star Requirements: 4

The next rank tier after the Warrior rank in Mobile Legends Bang Bang is Elite. Similar to the Warrior rank, in Elite, you need to climb three divisions to move on to the next rank tier. However, to clear and climb each division, you need to earn 4 stars instead of 3. You also start losing a star for a loss.

Despite that, Elite is a beginner-friendly rank and will help you learn the basic mechanics and roles in the game. You might even get matched with A.I enemies who shouldn’t pose much of a challenge in this rank tier.

3. Master

  • Divisions: IV, III, II, I
  • Star Requirements: 4

When you move up to Master IV after clearing Elite I, the game gets a lot better. You’ll no longer face bots, and winning the game will require a bit of effort from your end.

There are four divisions in Master, from Master IV to Master I, and you need to get 4 stars on each rank to move on to the next division.

4. Grandmaster

  • Divisions: V, IV, III, II, I
  • Star Requirements: 5

At the Grandmaster level, games become a bit harder. People playing in this rank have a couple of heroes that they have already mastered, and they spam these champions to make sure they win the game.

There are five divisions in this rank, and the star requirement to complete each division is 5 stars. You want to have a clear idea of the mechanics of the game if you want to succeed in this rank tier.

5. Epic

  • Divisions: V, IV, III, II, I
  • Star Requirements: 5

In the Epic rank, MLBB really opens up, giving you access to the Draft Pick system. You need to ban two heroes at the start and also pick champions to counter the opponent’s champion picks. Just picking a random hero that you like no longer works in this rank.

Strategy and skill are both important in this rank. The star requirements and divisions in Epic rank are the same as Grandmaster. However, the games are much tougher since all the players are trying their best to climb the leaderboard.

6. Legend

  • Divisions: V, IV, III, II, I
  • Star Requirements: 5

Legend is the final roadblock before you can get to the fabled Mythic rank. Here, the games are tough and extremely competitive. Moving through this rank will taste your patience, your skill, and most importantly, your mentality.

The players at this rank have already mastered the game at a decent level, so expect to face tough opponents. On the plus side, your allies should also be better than what you played with at the previous ranks.

In the Legend rank, there are five divisions, and you need to earn 5 stars to complete each division. Losing a game still costs you a star, so you’ll have to grind a decent number of games to climb out of this rank tier.

7. Mythic

  • Divisions: Mythical Honor, Mythical Glory, Mythical Immortal.
  • Star Requirements: Different for Each Division

When you finally reach the Mythic rank after beating Legend, the entire rank format changes. Instead of moving up a division by winning 3 to 5 stars, you need to finish 10 Mythical Placement matches.

Winning your placement games can award you with 1 to 3 stars for each win. Losing can result in you losing one or two stars, but sometimes you don’t lose any stars.

After your placement games are over, you get placed in a Mythical rank depending on your accumulated star points.

There are three different divisions in the Mythic Rank.

If you have less than 25 stars from your placement games, you’ll be placed in the Mythical Honor rank. Once your star point goes above 25, you move on to Mythical Glory. If you can accumulate and hold more than 50 stars, you’ll climb up to Mythical Immortal.

The Bottom Line

Mobile Legends Bang Bang is a fun twist on a popular gaming genre. At first glance, the anime-esque vibe of the game seems pretty simple. But as you keep playing, the complex mechanics and intricate design of the game start surfacing.

The ranked system in the game is pretty amazing and puts you through a lot of tests if you plan on climbing up to the highest level. Hopefully, now you have a clearer picture of the different rank tiers you need to overcome to get to the top. Good luck!
