Lords of the Fallen, like other games that belong to the soulslike genre, are known for being made up of difficult boss fights that need the right strategy to be completed. In this Lords of the Fallen Pieta boss guide article, we will explain in detail how to get the better of the first real boss you will encounter after the area representing the game's tutorial.
How to beat Pieta in Lords of the Fallen
The first thing to underline, even before telling you about his attacks and the strategy to follow, is not to fall into the trap of thinking that he is a simple boss to face just because he is the first one you will encounter. Pieta, in fact, is not at all an easy opponent to face, especially because you are at the beginning of your adventure and some game mechanics may not yet be properly assimilated. However, if you follow this guide, your life will be easier and you will be able to continue on your adventure.
Phase 1
As often happens with soulslike bosses, they consist of multiple phases, and Lords of the Fallen is certainly no exception to this rule. During the first phase, Pieta will use a long sword as his main weapon. As soon as the fight begins, her boss will do a two-swing combo that will allow her to hit you even if you are not very close to her, as it is an attack with a wide range. However, as soon as Pieta uses this attack, you will have the opportunity to advance to land a few hits during his cooldown period, before going back on the defensive again.
However, when you are close to her, keep in mind that Pieta will be able to perform a swinging attack and then step back to create distance between her and you. After this attack, we advise you not to rush in to hit her, as she will use another attack in which she will raise her sword to the sky to release a beam attack. To avoid this attack, which is not easy, you will have two options: run to the side to avoid it or dodge it as soon as Pieta launches the attack. However, keep in mind that to dodge it you will have to learn the right timing.
Another attack to watch out for during this first phase is when she will put her sword into the ground and then unleash a swarm of falling swords that will fall right where you are. While this attack may seem intimidating, it's actually very simple to avoid: stay out of range and you'll have nothing to worry about. The last attack that she will use in this first phase of the fight is a jump swing that will allow her to get closer to you. However, as happened with the first attack, this will also give you the opportunity to hit her while she is in a cooldown period, so we advise you to take advantage of this moment to pull off your combo.
Ultimately, the final advice we would like to give you to get the upper hand in this first phase of the battle is to always stay close to the Lords of the Fallen Pieta boss. This way, you will be able to avoid her attacks and take advantage of the cooldown periods between one and the other to pull off your combos to inflict damage on her. In case you are good at parrying, you can make use of this solution to induce Pieta into a stagger state which will allow you to hit her without worrying about taking damage.
Phase 2
The second phase of the Lords of the Fallen Pieta boss fight is certainly more difficult than the previous one and there are also new attacks that you will have to pay attention to. The first thing to take into consideration is that Pieta will transform into a four-winged knight. In this form, one of her attacks will be to position herself at the end of the battle arena and then fly quickly, releasing swords falling from the sky once he reaches the other side of the arena. This attack can inflict a lot of damage, so our advice to avoid it is to position yourself on one of the two sides of the arena, so that you cannot be hit.
Remember that in this phase, the Lords of the Fallen Pieta boss will still be able to carry out the attacks we described for the first phase, so, to avoid them, follow the same strategy. So, our advice is, since you will have become familiar with these types of attacks, to attack as soon as you have the chance. However, be careful not to rush into your offensive phase, remember that patience is the most important thing to defeat the Lords of the Fallen bosses.
Pieta will also make use of some ghosts in this phase that he will decide to summon during the battle. These ghosts are essentially equipped with four different types of attacks that you will have to pay attention to. The first is practically the same as the beam attack that Pieta uses in the first phase, only this time it will be carried out by two specters. The second attack is very similar to the linear sword attack, except that, this time too, two ghosts will use it. The third attack, however, consists of the ghosts that will approach you to pull off a melee combo. Finally, the last attack is similar to the one that Pieta uses at the beginning of the second phase, the difference lies in the fact that, this time, there will be two ghosts that will position themselves on the sides of the arena; for this reason, pay attention to which side of the arena is free in order to avoid this attack.
Finally, we also advise you to pay attention to her grab attack that Pieta will use when she is at a distance from you. You will recognize this attack as Pieta will aim at you to quickly head towards you and grab you. Try to avoid this attack at all costs (by running or dodging), as it is a type of attack that can inflict large amounts of damage and could even kill you if your health bar is not completely full.
In conclusion, the advice we want to give you to defeat the Lords of the Fallen Pieta boss is to steer clear and let Pieta complete her combos. Furthermore, keep in mind that attacking her at the moment of her transformation will be useless, as Pieta will not suffer any type of damage. In this second phase, pay attention to the attacks in which she will fly from one side of the arena to the other and to her ghosts. However, both attacks can be easily avoided: the first by observing where the safe place will be, the second by following the strategies used in the first phase.
As soon as you manage to defeat this boss, you will receive a Vestige Seed and eight Umbral Scouring as a reward. However, if you enter the Umbral realm, you will have the opportunity to interact with a memory fragment. This will allow you to relive a piece of her story and, once completed, you will receive the Remembrance of Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal. Bring this reward to Molhu at Skyrest to get his weapon, armor, and the Blessed Reflections Radiant spell.
