The Golden Guardians announced the signing of former Royal Youth’s Turkish jungler Can “Closer” Çelik.
Closer was awarded the TCL Summer 2019 MVP and he was a major part of Royal Youth’s Worlds 2019 play-ins campaign. The team, somewhat ironically knocked out by NA LCS side Clutch Gaming.
Golden Guardians have also confirmed the signing of former Cloud9 Academy mid laner Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer with Golden Guardians' former Academy mid laner Cristian “Palafox” Palafox heading to Cloud9.
The Golden Guardians have suffered from mediocrity since their introduction into the LCS. As of writing the Golden Guardians roster is as follows:
Top – Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell
Jungler – Closer
Mid – Goldenglue
ADC – Victor “FBI” Huang
Support – Choi “huhi” Jae-hyun or Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung
One major issue that will face the Golden Guardians is the residency rule. With only two non-North American players allowed on the active roster, GGS will need to shift players to the Academy team or move them on. Assuming Closer is being signed for the starting roster they’d have one more import slot left. Goldenglue has been confirmed to be replacing the departing Henrik “Froggen” Hansen, meaning the team will either move on AD carry FBI and use Huhi as support or use South Korean Olleh and sign a new AD carry.
The team certainly has a lot to shuffle around in the coming weeks, so we expect a lot more news coming out from the team.
