How to Unlock Flying in Wrath of the Lich King Classic

Unlock flying in Wrath of the Lich King Classic is a key part of adventuring in the world after TBC. It's still an essential part of the game and one many people don't understand how to unlock as it's not quiet as simple in Wrath.
So, you want to fly around the frozen north of Northrend? Well, all those lovely mounts you collected and loved in TBC will have a slight issue when we get into Wrath. The icy cold of the north just won't let those wings flap. For those of you using the Eng mount, it will just freeze the gears, and even though Al'ar is a firebird, it can't stay lit in Northrend. Don't argue about it; it's just how frost magic works. We don't make the rules, I'm afraid.
So, you'll need to save those gold coins because when you get to Icecrown and Storm Peaks, you'll need to take to the skies. Not only are these zones late-game zones, but running simply isn't an option here.

How much does flying cost in Wrath of the Lich King Classic
Cold Weather Flying costs 1,000 gold in Wrath Classic. That's it, right to the point bam you're done. You won't even need to jump through any hopes, either. Just head to the trainer, hand over those gold pennies, and you can fly. You don't even have to worry about Normal or Epic flying in Wrath as Cold Weather Flying is more like an “unlock” than it is a new skill. However, you will still need to pick up Epic Flying if you want to zoom around Icecrown at breakneck speeds.
What level can you fly in Wrath Classic
It's not level 80, thankfully. It's something that many people forgot back in the day, so don't make that mistake. In fact, it's level 77 that will see you take to the skies and thank the old gods it is, too. Because that's when you'll need it. However, don't be too upset because buying the flying unlock isn't your only option.
You can head to “Honest” Max at K3 in Strom Peak and pick up a loaner flying mount. It does come with a few caveats, sadly. Firstly, it only flies at 60% speed, so back to those old Normal TBC flying speeds. It can also only fly in Storm Peaks, Sholazar Basin, and Icecrown. Admittedly those are the only zones you actually “need” to fly in. However, it is annoying non the less.
Where can I learn flying in Wrath Classic
So, you've got your gold, you've hit level 77 and you want to fly? Well, providing you've already got at least Expert Riding and a lovely mount to sit on, you're good to go. Side note for those Druid players, you'll just need to meet the requirements to train your FLight Form before learning Cold Weather Flying.
Once all of the above are met, head to one of the three NPCs mentioned below:
- Roxi Ramrocket in Storm Peaks at the K3 base
- Pilot Vic in Sholazar Basin at the River’s Heart
- Hira Snowdawn in Dalaran at Kraus’ Landing sells the Tome of the Cold Weather Flying to send to your alts to learn Cold Weather Flying at level 68. Don't worry; she'll also tell you how to fly. The tomb will cost you a cold 1,000 gold, and you must have one character at level 80 before the item becomes available.
New flying mounts in Wrath
Firstly, all those lovely TBC flying mounts will still work in Wrath Classic. However, a new expansion brings an entirely new selection of flying mounts to love and cherish.
The ever-lovely Mei Francis in Dalaran will sell you an excellent Epic variant of your Gryphon or Windrider mounts.
Later in Wrath Classic, Phase 3 will open up, allowing players to head to the Argent Tournament. A new currency will become available called “Champion's Seals.” With these, you'll be able to purchase Argent Hippogryph (Alliance) or the Sunreaver Dragonhawk (Horde).
For those Death Knight players, you'll be able to pick up the Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade, a unique variant purchased from the vendor in Archerus.
There are also several mounts that can drop, be crafted, or earnt from PvP and reputation:
