G2 Esports vs KOI Esports Preview: 2023 LEC Spring Groups

The Kings of Europe are hungry for revenge as they enter their bo3 match-up against one of the rising stars in the LEC, KOI.

The reigning champions from the Winter split are the current poster boys of the LEC. With excellent form and precise macroplay, the German team wants another silver shield. On the other hand, KOI stands as a thorn in G2's side for recently winning against the LEC giant in an upset that rocked the Regular stage. Will Szygenda and co. be able to replicate their results and win a bo3 series? If you're betting on the LEC, this G2 Esports vs KOI preview guide is for you!

G2 Esports vs KOI Preview

G2 Esports

Known for their great tactics and unbeatable aggression, Larssen and co. have stood above the rest since the LEC began. Just last year, the Berlin-based powerhouse ran a 24-0 win streak that started in the 2022 LEC Spring Split and continued throughout mid-season invitationals. And based on their results in the Spring split so far, keeping the current roster was the best choice they could've made.

Relying on their iconic botlane duo, G2 continues to force missteps from their opponents until they can clear teamfights with overwhelming efficiency. But even though their form looks the cleanest out of all of the LEC's top 10, they've suffered losses against less impressive teams this split, leading fans to question if they're slipping. Nevertheless, the team is poised for another shot at Worlds this year, and it'll take insane amounts of leadership and raw talent to pull them off of their pedestal.

G2 Esports Roster

  • Sergen “Brokenblade” Çelik
  • Martin “Yike” Sundelin
  • Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther
  • Steven “Hans Sama” Liv
  • Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle

Player To Watch

Hans Sama's Draven has sundered the hopes of the greatest top-laners in the LEC.

KOI

The Spanish team's Regular stage numbers have been average so far, but their victories have been significant. Toppling better teams like SK Gaming and not to mention G2 has placed KOI just above MAD Lions in the final Regular stage standings. Their previous game pitted them against Team Vitality, resulting in an extremely one-sided match.

Though their recent matches have given them more room to improve, KOI's insane win potential is nothing to scoff at. And despite them having moments where they overextend, they always go for the better trade, have intelligent coordination and keep their composure — characteristics of a winning LEC team. All bets are off for KOI vs. G2 Esports!
