Future Games Show 2022 Recap, The Not-E3 Hype Train Keeps Rolling

The not-E3 season is continuing with full steam and here is a look back at one of the events, the Future Games Show 2022.


After just a couple of months of break, Future Games Show is back once again to showcase what the gaming world has to offer. This summer gaming conference by GamesRadar was focused mainly on games from medium or independent studios.

In the event hosted by Denise Gough and Doug Cockle (Yennefer and Geralt from The Witcher 3), the Future Games Show delivered over an hour of updates, release dates, and reveals for over thirty new games. So let’s take a look at what is coming up in the near future.

Outpost (Working Title)

The first game shown at the event was Outpost by Lightning Games, a co-op first-person shooter. Outpost is a game that mixes survival with exploration, base building and base defense. According to the trailer shown, it also has some tower defense elements whit you will need to defend your base from droves of enemies.

You can add Outpost to your wishlist on Steam, and it is coming soon to PC.

Luto

Luto was the first horror game showcased at the FGS 2022. It is a first-person psychological horror game about someone unable to exit their home, which hits close to most due to the pandemic. Your goal is to challenge your decision-making by choosing between different paths the game puts your way while exploring the pain caused by a loved one.

Luto is expected to be released in 2022 and you can add it to your wishlist on Steam to keep updated.

Nightingale

Nightingale is a first-person, PvE, survival crafting game with a world you can share with your friends. You can play the game solo, or cooperatively using a new mechanic showcased during the Summer Games Fest.

The developer of the game Inflexion Games’ CEO Aaryn Flynn joined the broadcast to talk more about this mechanic, Realm Cards, which lets players travel between the realms to explore different places.

Nightingale is coming to PC early access in Q4 2022.

Tray Racers

Tray Racers is an online multiplayer racing game from the producers of the Switch title Phogs. In this game with the desert atmosphere, you can race either solo or multiplayer with up to 16 players. It is a game focused on the tricks you perform and the obstacles on your way as much as the race itself.

Tray Racers is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2023.

Kwalee

Then we heard from Kwalee about their progression of the upcoming PC and console games. Their section informed us about three of their games:

  • Wildmender is a survival, farming and multiplayer exploration game that reminded us of Journey. It is expected to be released in 2022 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
  • Die by the Blade is a 1v1 fighter game but with a focus on weapon combat, mostly swords. It has an interesting one-hit kill mechanic that players will certainly try to master. It is coming to PC, PlayStation and Xbox in 2022.
  • Scathe is a classic Doom-like FPS with an online co-op option. It is planned to be out on August 31, 2022, on PC.
  • Robobeat is another FPS but this time a more stylized arena shooter. Players will have the ability to sync their gunfire to the beat of their choice. Robobeat is coming to PC in 2023.

Morbid Metal

Morbid Metal is an action Roguelike developed by just one person. In this game, players can take control of a blade-wielding robot, and you can shapeshift into four different characters in real-time. The game promises a diverse environment with a good combat system.

Morbid Metal is coming to PC in 2023.

Turbo Golf Racing

Turbo Golf Racing is the Hugecalf Studios’ attempt to bring an arcade-style racing and golfing game with a Rocket League-like experience. It reminds us of the feeling of Golf It where you can have casual fun with your friends but in a little more competitive setting.

The game’s Beta is available on Steam between June 11 and 20. It is coming to PC and Xbox on August 4, 2022. 

American Arcadia

American Arcadia is a puzzle-based adventure game with a Truman Show-inspired premise. While we saw the game in previous events, in FGS we heard from developers more about their thought processes.

The game combines a 2.5D platformer experience with first-person missions but at the heart, there is always a puzzle to solve. According to the creative director Tatiana Yunquera, the team wanted to talk about the pressure social media put on people in our current day and age.

American Arcadia is coming soon to PC and Console, if you’d like to know more you can add it to your wishlist on Steam.

Alaskan Truck Simulator

Movie Games’ new reveal is a truck simulator based in Alaska. It is an open-world realistic simulator like the ones before, but unlike them, the Alaskan Truck Simulator promises much more than just driving a vehicle. You can perform tasks a real trucker would do in real life like putting gas in your truck, maintenance and grocery shopping.

Currently, there is a demo available on Steam, and the game is expected to hit PC and Consoles in Q4 of 2022.

The Entropy Centre

The Entropy Centre is another puzzle game but this time a futuristic first-person exploration kind of one. In the game, you have a powerful companion who is a talking device and you can rewind time using it to solve the varying puzzles you get offered.

The Entropy Centre is coming to PC and consoles in 2022.

Games for Ukraine

During the whole month, we saw multiple games getting delayed or dropped due to the conflict in Ukraine and the hardships Ukrainian developers go through as a result. Future Games Show had a special presentation focusing on the work of these Ukrainian developers who are still able to work on their games. These included:

  • Puzzles for Clef, Weasel Token
  • Zero Losses, Marevo Collective
  • This Rain Will Never End, Marginal Act
  • Farlanders, Andriy Bychkovskyi
  • Through the Nightmares, Sandman Team

Lost in Play

In Happy Juice Games’ first title, you can help a brother and sister who are lost in their imagination to find their way back home. Lost in Play is a point-and-click platformer mainly based around puzzles and it offers a colorful and feel-good experience.

The game is currently available as a demo on Steam and it is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch on August 10, 2022.

Brewmaster

Brewmaster is a beer brewing simulator from Auroch Digital. It is a 3D sandbox game where you control a brewery to make beer. The game offers multiple chemistry-driven recipes you can customize to your liking and then you can enter into different competitions with your creation.

The game is coming to PC and consoles in 2022, with a demo available right now on Steam.

Bramble: The Mountain King

Then we heard a presentation from Dimfrost Studio’s lead artist Eleanor. We learned about one of the creatures you can encounter in the game, a tragic figure with a very fairy-tale-like story. And we also had some glimpses into other characters in the trailer footage.

Bramble is a third-person adventure horror game where you take control of a young boy named Olle, on his way to rescue his sister. The platformer is coming to PC and consoles in 2023.

Enemy of the State

Enemy of the State is a top-down shooter where you can live the life of an outlaw in the Prohibition times. You start the game as a low-level criminal and try to make your way to the top by performing heists, kidnappings, and assassinations. The game also offers an online co-op play.

Enemy of the State is coming to PC and consoles in mid-2024.

Virtual Show Floor

The show then continued with a montage of multiple games in a virtual showroom. We saw multiple titles in connected booths and all with accompanying demos available on Steam. Sunday Gold

Sunday Gold is a point-and-click, turn-based adventure game set in a grim, dystopian future from Team 17. In this XCOM-like game, the player takes control of a group of low-level criminals to bring down the mega-billionaire that is controlling London.

Sunday Gold is coming in 2022.

Do Not Open

Do Not Open is the first VR entry of the event. The game by Nox Noctis and Quasar Dynamics has a Resident Evil Village feeling environment in a big house but with possessed children and dolls.

The horror adventure game is coming to VR platforms in 2022.

Bright Memory Infinite

FYQD Studio’s title was released on Steam in November 2021 and it was an Xbox exclusive on console. It is a fast-paced FPS game within a sci-fi setting. We saw an updated trailer and the game will be released on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch soon. 

The Last Faith

The Last Faith is a Metroidvania game set in a gothic horror setting. It offers a wide range of melee and long-range weapons and magical spells. The combat is supposed to be hard with a variety of combos but very rewarding if executed correctly.

The Last Faith is coming to PC and consoles in 2022.

Team 17 Montage

After the Sunday Gold, we once again heard from the publisher Team 17 to learn about multiple current and upcoming games. The full list included:

  • Autopsy Simulator
  • The Unliving
  • Ship of Fools
  • Sunday Gold
  • Sweet Transit
  • Batora: Lost Haven
  • The Knight Witch and Killer Frequency

Tinykin

Tinykin is a puzzle game by Splashteam that looks like a family-friendly cartoon. The game's main goal is to help Milo go back to his home with the help of the little tinykin.

The game is coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch on August 30. 

Serial Cleaners

Serial Cleaners is a single-player stealth action crime game in which the players can control four cleaners who are working for the Mob in the late 90s New York City. The game is heavily inspired by 90s crime films and offers a very immersive story.

Serial Cleaners is coming to PC and consoles on 22 September 2022.

AirportSIM

AirportSIM is a simulation game based in an airport. But unlike most titles like this, the players won’t be managing the airport. Instead, you will take the role of an airport ground handler. AirportSIM promises very realistic graphics, models and weather conditions to make it feel like a real airport.

The game is coming in to land on PC and Xbox in 2023.

Phonopolis

Perhaps in the most interesting trailer of the event, we saw in-game footage from the Amanita Design’s game Phonopolis. The game tackles real-world themes and topics around politics, mainly focusing on manipulation and individualism.

Phonopolis is in multiplatform development, and you can wishlist it on Steam now.

Arctic Awakening

Arctic Awakening is a first-person adventure mystery game set in an arctic setting. Players will take control of a pilot who crash landed during a routine flight in Alaska. Your goal is to get out of danger and find your co-pilot with the help of your AI friend.

Arctic Awakening is coming in 2023.

F1 Manager 2022

Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2022 is a sports simulation game in which you take control of an F1 franchise. This year’s version of the game promises multiple upgrades when it comes to players’ options on what they can control and adjust to better their team.

F1 Manager 2022 is out on August 25, 2022, on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Divine Knockout

Divine Knockout or DKO is a brand new, fast-paced, Brawler set in a world of Gods, albeit in a stylized one. The game offers intense action, non-complicating ability combos, evolving battlegrounds and cute chibi-looking graphics.

Divine Knockout is coming soon to PC and consoles.

Planet of Lana

Planet of Lana is a simple but gorgeous-looking 2D platformer. In this adventure puzzle game, the players will control a young girl trying to save her world from a faceless army. But according to developers, the game isn’t about a war, but about a vibrant planet.

Planet of Lana is coming to PC and Xbox in 2022.

Palworld

Pocketpair’s Palworld is an open-world survival crafting game where players can go around befriending different creatures which are called ‘Pal’. While the premise sounds a lot like Pokemon the look and feel of the game are different enough that it can be a new experience. Not the mention the Pals have guns this time around.

Palworld is coming in 2022.
