Fortnitemares 2021: Everything You Need To Know

Fortnitemares 2021 is officially here! Learn everything you need to know about Fortnite Battle Royale's annual Halloween-themed event.

Since 2017, Epic Games has made a point each year to celebrate the spooky season in October. Last year, the event featured many new skins and gameplay changes, including one where eliminated players would turn into Shadows and have the opportunity to earn a Nitemare Royale. Well, that was last year, and now Epic Games has an entirely new experience for players in Chapter 2 – Season 8.

The time has arrived for Fortnitemares 2021, and ESTNN is here to provide you with a comprehensive breakdown of what to expect as the event gets underway. Join us as we look at all of this year's offerings during the Cube invasion Fortnite season!

Universal Monster Icons in Fortnite

Three cards appear with the one in the center having Frankenstein popping out of it with the word "Fortnitemares" in the corner.

The first notable tidbit from Epic's blog post is the presence of Universal monsters in Fortnite Battle Royale. That means Frankenstein's Monster and The Mummy, amongst others, will become in-game playable characters. In partnership with Universal Studios, Epic Games also announced that a real-life Battle Bus and Fortnite character cosplayers would appear throughout the month at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood, California.

Fortnitemare goers can keep tabs on the upcoming outfits by visiting the card flip page, where Epic will reveal the next planned cosmetics release. Frankenstein's Monster is up first, and players can purchase the set from Fortnite's Item Shop beginning today, October 5, at 8 PM ET.

The Cube Invasion Continues

A giant purple cube from Fortnite Season 8 glows with a handful of characters looking at like apprehensively.

The blog post references the Cube takeover—Fortnite Season 8's central theme. It appears a new weapon from The Sideways and some “Halloween” tricks are now available in-game to help players fight back against the Cube Monsters. Expect to see more quests in this regard soon in exchange for free rewards. Epic released the Dual Fiend Hunters—a new weapon to help players battle those same NPCs.

Shortnitemares 2021

Epic Games will close out Fortnitemares 2021 with another edition of Short Nites. Dubbed Shortnitemares, the developers have created creepy short films. Players can watch in specifically designed movie theaters in Creative Mode. More details about this event will be available soon, according to the blog post.

Fortnitemares 2021 Theories & Leaks

Fortnite leaker HYPEX revealed the latest Fortnite x The Walking Dead crossover, due out later this week. One of the flip card images clearly shows Rick Grimes' sheriff's hat from the hit TV series. The show's former protagonist will join Michonne and Daryl Dixon in the Fortnite universe.

Another connection drawn by HYPEX might indicate Shadow Midas finally becoming an unlockable character outfit. Midas' shadow form was an antagonist during Fortnitemares 2020 but never entered the game in any other capacity.

It seems a gold Skull Trooper cosmetic outfit is also in the works, as is the rumored Pyramid point of interest (POI). We'll have to wait and see what more Epic has in store as Fortnitemares 2021 gets underway. The event is expected to end on November 1, based on Epic's blog post. Stay tuned for more information!
