Fortnite: NRG Signs Controller King Unknown

NRG signed NA East standout and controller specialist, Unknown.

In the past two weeks, NRG and their Fortnite roster have been on a rollercoaster ride of sorts. The recent loss of Martin “MrSavage” Andersen shocked the competitive community. He spent well over a year with the organization and decided to explore free agency. Despite this, NRG still possessed a talented roster of players from top to bottom. It didn’t take the organization long to add one of the most sought after players in Fortnite. Today, NRG announced that Dominick “Unknown” Green joined their competitive Fortnite roster.

The rumor mill ran rampant since Unknown announced that he signed to an organization. Many theorized as to where the talented controller player would land. NRG released a short video featuring active roster members Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish, Williams “Zayt” Aubin, Benjamin “Edgey” Peterson and Shane “EpikWhale” Cotton announcing the acquisition of Unknown. The video described the young NA East player as a hybrid who can succeed on both controller and keyboard and mouse. His immense skill mixed with an unprecedented track record caught the eye of the Los Angeles-based organization. Unknown becomes the sixth active member on NRG’s Fortnite roster.

Unknown’s Competitive History

Armed with both a controller and occasionally a mouse and keyboard, Unknown exhibited absolute dominance over the last few months. He’s won four Solo Cash Cup tournaments since the beginning of Chapter 2, and often, it’s a landslide victory. Unknown prides himself on his W-key and box fighting abilities, which leads to a slew of extra points in Solo Cash Cups. On top of his solo track record, Unknown won the Chapter 2 Season 1 Fortnite Champion Series alongside KEZ, Stable Ronaldo and Avery. The four players won $187.5K USD, and Unknown contributed significantly to their success. He also qualified and participated at the Fortnite World Cup in a 69th place effort.

A Bright Future and Favorable Meta

Epic Games still has yet to announce the next major tournament, but something is coming down the pike. In the meantime, Unknown is content with dominating solo competitions and enforcing his playstyle on all opponents. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 saw the removal of spike traps, which plays well in favor of W-keyers like Unknown.

NRG made a wise decision to bring the controller king on board, considering how often he populates the top of leaderboards. He spent the majority of DreamHack Anaheim pushing other players, which unfortunately did not play out in his favor. Nevertheless, Unknown had been on the free-agent market for his entire career and finally received an acceptable offer. With one of the more reputable esports organizations supporting him, Unknown will be looking for more tournament wins as 2020 moves forward.
