Fortnite: How To Get The Axe Of Champions – The Rarest Pickaxe

ESTNN breaks down the Axe of Champions’ history and how players can possess the rare item.

Fortnite Battle Royale prides itself on in-game cosmetics. From the game’s beginning in 2017, it drew attention because of its innovation to the Battle Royale genre. Straightforward in their approach, Epic Games made cartoon-like character models, in-game cosmetic items and building mechanics the game’s foundational elements. Some rare cosmetics, like the Renegade Raider, became a piece of Fortnite folklore because it’s impossible to acquire. There are countless others like the Renegade Raider and one in particular that only a few players in history can say they have held.

What is the Axe of Champions?

The Axe of Champions stands as Fortnite’s rarest commodity, given only to each season’s best competitive players. Even completionists may never gain access to this pickaxe because obtaining it requires a first-place performance in the game’s flagship Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) competition. To date, only seven FNCS events have occurred since Season X in 2019. However, Epic Games did not introduce the Axe of Champions until April 2020 during Chapter 2 – Season 2. Past FNCS winners at one point also briefly held the exclusive pickaxe for their accomplishments.

Those victors span across six Fortnite Champion Series competitions, seven regions and two platforms. Thus far, 140 players have held the coveted Axe of Champions. Each player can flex the pickaxe until the end of next season’s tournament. Here is a complete list of those who possess that career accolade:

How to Earn the Axe of Champions

We have laid out the foundation for what it takes to win Fortnite’s rarest item. Working hard to level up your skills and compete with your region’s best is the only path to success. Those looking to accomplish the unthinkable should start in Arena Mode, where new competitive players can learn the landscape. Once obtaining Champion Division rank, you’ll need to find two teammates to complete your trio. Consistent play is a must in the Fortnite Champion Series, and only the most consistent lay claim to the pickaxe.

The next FNCS is on tap to commence on April 22. Trios will once again begin their journey to unlocking the Axe of Champions Fortnite’s most elusive prize.
