Epic Games introduced the trio format to competitive Fortnite at the inception of Season X. The last 5 weeks of competition provided viewers with intense qualification attempts from a mix of talented players. Each region produced unfathomable plays from its top players and saw multiple of those players qualify. Let’s set the stage for the conclusion to the Fortnite Champion Series this weekend.
Schedule
Teams across NA East, NA West, Europe, Brazil, Asia, Oceania and Middle East will compete in a variety of heats beginning at 1 PM this Friday, September 20th. This will all culminate per region in the Grand Finals on Sunday, September 22nd. Participating regions will not combine into one Grand Finals. Each region will crown its own champion at the conclusion of Sunday’s events. Epic Games provided details regarding the exact format that they will follow for this weekend.
“Advance from a previous Series Weekly or be top ranked on the Series Leaderboard to be invited to this event. This tournament occurs across two rounds – Group Stage (top 133 teams per region) and Grand Finals (top 32 teams per region). For Group Stage, all qualified teams are seeded into a single session based on their final standings on the Series Leaderboard. The top teams from each session will advance to the Grand Finals.”
The Fortnite Champion Series Group Stage and Grand Finals will take place online only. The heats will dictate which teams advance to Grand Finals to compete for a piece of the $10M USD prize pool. Fortnite’s own Twitch channel will provide coverage of the Group Stage and Grand Finals. Qualified teams began the process over 5 weeks ago and we will now see which of the top teams will claim victory this weekend.
NA East
The point leaders coming out of NA East are none other than the team of World Cup Champion, SEN Bugha, alongside RS clarityG and STRETCH. After opting to stream the FNCS qualifiers, Bugha went with clarityG and STRETCH over organizational teammates SEN Aspect and SEN Animal. This trio finished 450 points ahead of second-place and was always at the top of the weekly leaderboards. Bugha, STRETCH and clarityG achieved results of 4th, 6th, 2nd, 5th and 3rd coming in.
Right behind Bugha and company is the trio of Envy Bucke, SEN Animal and SEN Aspect. Again we have another team that consistently finished inside the top 8 of each weekly qualifier. The 1425 points amassed by Bucke, Animal and Aspect indicates their consistency since the Week 1 qualifier. Over the past 5 weeks, they have finished in 9th, 3rd, 1st, 24th and 51st. Although their last two weeks did not yield ideal results, they are one of the favorites to take the Fortnite Champion Series title.
NA West
Competing under assumed aliases of Mazer Tfue, Mazer Mongraal and Mazer Bugha is the dynamic trio of FLY Edgey, Liquid Cented and rehx. The NA West region was never in question from the moment Week 1 ended. After results of 1st, 12th, 1st, 2nd and 1st, this team is undoubtedly the best out of NA West from a results standpoint. Edgey, Cented and rehx finished comfortably ahead of 2nd place by 400 points. This is the trio to beat heading into the FNCS Finals.
Although our previous team dominated the region, ThaiTanks, Thomuss_ and wavyjacob produced admirable results at the end of the 5 week period. Their placements of 4th, 1st, 9th, 3rd and 9th are impressive considering the competition. Many of the top teams failed to qualify, but this trio performed extremely well throughout. Edgey, Cented and rehx ultimately overshadowed wavyjacob and company, but anything can happen during the upcoming finals.
Europe
FaZe Mongraal, mitr0 and NRG benjyfishy absolutely decimated all who came into contact with them for the last 5 weeks of competition. There is something special about this trio. No other trio can rival their communication and the way they take high ground and command end game is truly inspirational to watch. Their results speak from themselves with a 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd and 1st through all qualifiers. The 2400 points compiled over that time safely place them in the top spot as the European FNCS prepares for the finale.
Finishing in a distance 2nd place is the trio of G2 Tohaj, hREDS BELAEU and Kaxie. Their consistency granted them the second seed approaching the finals. The results by Tohaj, BELAEU and Kaxie were 38th, 4th, 3rd, 5th and 4th. This trio’s effort to compete against the titans in first place is admirable, and they will look to shock the world by taking down benjyfishy, Mongraal and mitr0 when it matters most.
Oceania
The Oceania region ultimately became a two trio region. The first seed from this region is the trio of Gooboz, Link and worthy. This trio spent a lot of team at the top of the weekly leaderboards during the qualifiers. With the results of 3rd, 3rd, 1st, 1st and 5th, they managed to keep the Oceania region under control. Link, Gooboz and worthy are amongst the favorites for the Oceania FNCS Finals.
x2Twins Jordan, x2Twins Jesse and volx rivaled our first place team through the qualifying period. Over 5 weeks they achieved results of 1st, 1st, 7th, 2nd and 1st. Their success is undeniable to this point, which is why they sit above the rest of the Oceania region along with Gooboz, Link and worthy. It will be quite interesting to see how these tw
o trios perform in the FNCS Group Stage.
Asia
OPGG_FaxF0x, T1 Sexyboy and I STAN Peterpan claimed the top spot in the Asia region at the end of the 5 week qualifying period. With 1775 points, they edged out second place by a mere 25 points to earn the number one seed as we head toward the finals. FaxF0x, Sexyboy and Peterpan put up results of 12th, 7th, 1st, 2nd and 4th en route to the finals. We shall see how they fare against the other top talent in this region.
Finishing just behind first place is the trio of WGS Jag, WGS Horde and WGS_Qoo. They claim the second seed after a season-long effort yielding results of 3rd, 1st, 10th, 3rd and 8th. This trio did their best to take the top spot but ultimately fell just short. The Asia region can realistically be won by any of these top teams as the gap is much narrower. We will have to see how this plays out this weekend.
Brazil
The young Argentian phenom, k1ng, grabbed the number one seed alongside Tox and xOwN. Many will recall k1ng’s unrivaled slaying performance at the Fortnite World Cup, and now he marches into the FNCS Finals with xOwN and Tox. Over 5 weeks they managed results of 5th, 7th, 1st, 11th and 5th. This impressive trio will be on the radar of many viewers considering k1ng’s past and their collective ability to rack up eliminations.
C9 drakoNz, masterere and C9 blackoutz finished the FNCS with the second seed. They ultimately fell short of first place by 25 points and matched the consistency of k1ng, Tox and xOwN throughout the 5 weeks of play. They achieved results of 1st, 13th, 3rd, 3rd and 37th rivaling that of our first-place team. With a region as spread out as Brazil, it is difficult to pick just one trio as the overwhelming favorite.
Middle East
Running away with the FNCS point lead was the team of POWER FHD, POWER Yonx and POWER Nm7. Overall, they finished 400 points ahead of second with results of 4th, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th. Although they did not earn a win, consistency is king during the FNCS qualifiers. This trio is in the mix of many other top Middle East teams vying for victory.
The second seed went to DiE Sane, iiUniit and BROOK ahaha. En route to the FNCS Finals, they finished in 2nd, 7th, 3rd, 12th and 11th. This performance was ultimately good enough to secure themselves a favorable seed as group play approaches. Sane, iiUniit and BROOK will look to steal the FNCS Championship from a multitude of talented teams in the Middle East region.
