Learn about Fortnite's all-new Frosty Frenzy tournament.
Each year around this time, competitive Fortnite players wait in anticipation for a significant tournament announcement. Chapter 2 – Season 5 is no different, considering there isn't a lot happening outside of DreamHack and other third-party competitions. Speculation filled the air over the last two weeks, with some sources claiming that the Winter Royale would return for its third consecutive year. Epic Games took those rumors and promptly smashed them yesterday. Fortnite's Competitive Team confirmed that the well-established Winter Royale would not continue this year in favor of a new tournament, dubbed Frosty Frenzy.

Frosty Frenzy Format & Dates
Fortnite's inaugural Frosty Frenzy tournament will take place on December 12 and December 13. It will be a trios competition, encompassing all seven competitive regions – NA East, NA West, Europe, Oceania, Brazil, Asia and the Middle East. The two-day, four-session format features two separate scoring systems. Epic Games' Frosty Frenzy blog post explained the intricate structure.
“Frosty Frenzy is broken up into four Sessions spanning two days for each server region. Each Session will consist of two Rounds, with only the top 500 teams from NAE, NAW, EU and BR regions and the top 250 teams from OCE, Asia, and ME regions advancing from Round 1 onto Round 2 in each session. Competitors can compete in all four Sessions if they desire, so long as they meet the requirements described below ahead of time.”
Players can compete in all four sessions mentioned above, meaning they can multiply their earnings should they perform well enough. Each session highlights the same two-round format, which you can see below.
Round 1
- Two-hour session
- A maximum of six matches
- Top 500 teams in the NAE, NAW, EU, or BR regions will advance to the second round
- Top 250 teams in the OCE, ASIA, or ME regions will advance to the second round
Round 2
- Three-hour session
- A maximum of ten matches
