Final Fantasy 16: How to Defeat White Dragon

White Dragon is a boss that players will encounter during Final Fantasy 16's “Fire in the Sky” main quest after defeating Titan. In this mission, there are three bosses to defeat and this is the first one you will have to face. As usual, we advise you to follow the right strategy in order to win the fight and continue in the game. In this article, we have decided to collect some useful tips and strategies to follow in order to defeat White Dragon.

Location, rewards, and abilities

As already mentioned in the introduction of this article, the White Dragon boss can be fought in the main quest “Fire in the Sky” held in The Crystalline Dominion area in the Crystalline Dominion region. Players who are able to defeat this boss will be able to receive rewards that will be very useful throughout the game. These rewards include 1500 XP, 200 AP, and 3200 Gil, as well as items like Sharp Fang, Bloody Hide, and Whitewyrm Bone.

However, as we always recommend, even for the easiest bosses to defeat, you shouldn't underestimate White Dragon. For this reason, we suggest you adopt a combat strategy that is effective and that manages to make you win the fight in the shortest possible time and take as little damage as possible. Furthermore, we remind you that, as usual, White Dragon also has skills available (Heavenly Host, Holy Twinning, Dragon Dance, and Emanation) with which to inflict greater damage on his opponents.

How to defeat White Dragon

The White Dragon boss's weak point is its head. For this reason, what we advise you to do is to focus on his head during the fight, in order to inflict as much damage as possible on him. However, reaching his head won't be a very simple thing, quite the contrary. To simplify this operation, we advise you to use some Clive skills such as Wicked Wheel or Eikonic Feasts such as Deadly Embrace in order to be able to get more off the ground and reach the boss test a little more easily.

White Dragon is a boss who uses the element of ice to fight his enemies, as well as being able to launch very powerful air attacks. These attacks include 360 spin attacks, getting up in the area, and then shooting beams of ice at the ground or spitting a cloud of ice. Due to the fact that these skills can cover a large area of the arena, we recommend that you use Phoenix Shift to dodge these attacks, as normal dodging is not as efficient at surviving these attacks.

White Dragon's abilities

We said that White Dragon, like almost all the other bosses in the game, has skills available that he will use during the fight. One such skill is Heavenly Twinning which allows the boss to throw five ice orbs that will slowly drift in the direction Clive is standing, followed by ice arrows. Dodging this skill won't be very easy, so as we said before, we recommend using Phoenix Shift to try not to get hit by this skill and not take damage.

In addition, White Dragon will also be able to form ice flames that will be able to continue to deal damage you even over time. To understand when the boss is about to launch this attack, all you need to do is see when vertical lines form on the ground: this is the indicator that allows you to understand that White Dragon is starting to launch this type of attack. What you can do is either stand between two lines and avoid being touched or run away from that area.

Finally, we want to tell you that, once the life of the boss has reached half, he will begin to summon ghosts of different shapes that will start shooting beams in all directions. What you can do is dodge this sort of projectile to try to avoid taking damage, but remember to dodge a second time as well as “intelligent” beams that are able to rotate in your direction. If you are not fast enough in this procedure, you will still be hit and take damage.
