Liquid Flame is a boss that players will encounter during the course of their Final Fantasy 16 adventure, specifically during the “Fire and Ice” mission after defeating the Flame Lizard boss. This is the last of the three bosses you will encounter in this mission. To be able to win this fight and be able to continue in the game, you will have to adopt the right strategy and be quick in thinking about which moves to make. In this article, we will give you some useful tips to follow in order to be successful in this fight.
Location, rewards, and abilities
As already mentioned in the introduction of this article, the boss Liquid Flame will be the last boss to be encountered in the main quest “Fire and Ice”, which takes place in Drake's Breath area in the Iron Kingdom region. Those who manage to defeat this fearsome boss will receive rewards as thanks for their hard work. Rewards include 600 XP, 220 AP, and 3000 Gil, as well as Magicked Ash and Liquid Flame to date.
However, we advise you to pay attention to this boss for the duration of the conflict. To be able to defeat Liquid Flame, as usual, it is necessary to follow the right strategy that will be able to lead you to victory. To succeed in this aim, you must also keep in mind the fact that this boss, like almost all the others in the game, has a vast arsenal of special skills that he will draw on during the fight. Among these abilities are Fiery Impact, Firaga, Eructation, Eleventh Hour, Flagrant Wyvern, and Flagrant Coeurl.
How to defeat Liquid Flame
As is often the case with this type of boss, Liquid Flame's weak point is its head. Since it is a very agile boss who is always on the move, hitting his head won't be very easy. The thing we can suggest you do is to stagger the enemy by getting his Will Gauge to zero, then make use of this time frame to launch your skills and attacks, also using the different Eikons available.
Since Liquid Flame is a boss who has a huge arsenal of basic attacks and abilities, being aware of the pattern he uses is of the utmost importance. Furthermore, you will have to be able to understand the perfect timing to hit and interrupt his combos, which is certainly not very easy to metabolize. Due to the speed of this boss and therefore of the combat, we advise against entrusting your defenses to the parry, rather we advise you to dodge as many attacks as possible, so as not to suffer too much damage.
One attack he will often make is to move once he has landed a few attacks, or after shaking the ground with his feet. It is very easy to be hit by this type of attack if you are not aware of the timing, since he will charge the attack for a few seconds and then try to hit you, without any indication being shown on the screen. To facilitate this mechanic, if you need it, you can equip the Ring of Timely Evasion which will help you automate the dodging process.
Once the boss transforms into a dragon, he will fly up and you will no longer be able to hit him up close. At this point in the battle, therefore, all you have to do is launch your skills and all the medium and long-range attacks you have to try to inflict as much damage as possible. Use this strategy until it transforms back into its base form.
Liquid Flame's abilities
Liquid Flame is a boss who boasts a well-stocked arsenal of skills that he can use in the course of combat to make your life more difficult. They are all based on the use of fire in different states and situations, so they are quite similar to each other, but this does not mean that they should be underestimated as they manage to inflict a considerable amount of damage.
Since the vital point of the boss in question is his head, you will have to take advantage when he makes use of his ability of Fiery Impact, with which he will head towards you and slam the ground. After using this ability, as often happens, he will have to wait for a cooldown period before he can resume fighting and this is therefore the right moment to launch your attacks and inflict as much damage as possible to his head. Remember to move after you've landed a couple of hits before he gets his energy back and hits you.
Another ability to keep in mind during the fight is the Eleventh Hour. This ability allows Liquid Flame to create multiple clones of itself that will surround you and try to hit you in any way possible. All the clones will advance towards you, so the best strategy to use is to try to dodge them all, so as not to take damage. In fact, this skill can be deadly if you are not able to time it right to avoid all enemies.
