Final Fantasy 16: How to Defeat Flame Lizard

Flame Lizard is a boss in Final Fantasy 16 that players will encounter during the main quest “Fire and Ice” after defeating Akashic Morbol. He is the second of the three bosses featured in this mission. As usual, in order to defeat this boss as quickly and efficiently as possible, you need to use a precise strategy. In this article, we will give you some useful tips to follow in order to defeat Flame Lizard and continue in the game.

Location, rewards, and abilities

As already mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Flame Lizzard boss can be faced during the main mission “Fire and Ice”, which takes place in Drake's Breath area in the Iron Kingdom region. The players who manage to emerge victorious from this battle will receive rewards as thanks for the battle they had to face. Among them are 220 XP, 150 AP, and 1500 Gil, as well as items such as Sharp Fang and Gnarled Scale.

In any case, we advise you to pay attention to this boss and not underestimate him. In order to be able to defeat Flame Lizard and continue in your Final Fantasy 16 adventure, all you have to do is follow the right strategy in combat. We also remind you that as usual, Flame Lizard also has special abilities available in its arsenal to which it can refer during the battle, such as Incense, Firewater, and Overdrive.

How to defeat Flame Lizard

The Flame Lizard boss has the same attacks and movements as the Fafnir boss since it is able to roll, become a ball, stand up, move its tail, and rollover. Her weak point, as is often the case with this type of boss, is her head. The strategy that we advise you to use, therefore, is to aim your attacks at his head, in order to inflict as much damage as possible. In case the boss is not facing your direction, use the Phoenix Shift ability to present yourself directly in front of him and hit him with attacks. Keep in mind, however, to be ready to move as soon as you land a few attacks before the Flame Lizard hits you.

Another tip we want to give you is to attack him and inflict damage on him using your skills until you have completely drained the boss's Will Gauge in order to stagger him and have free access to his head. Also, keep in mind that he can be staggered for a shorter amount of time when his Will Gauge is reduced by half. You can prolong this effect by making use of the Deadly Embrace ability which will guarantee you a few extra seconds to be able to score your combos.

Flame Lizard's abilities

As mentioned earlier, Flame Lizard has many things in common with Fafnir, except that this boss is able to use an ability called Incense, which makes all of its attacks faster and more powerful. To avoid being affected by this ability, we invite you to keep an eye on his body. As soon as you see flames pouring out of it, it means that the Flame Lizzard is ready to attack him. Dodge all attacks (if you can) and counterattack only when he's out of his attacks.

Another bail to keep an eye out for is Overdrive. Thanks to this ability, Flame Lizard will be able to launch fire beams from his mouth, followed by a series of claw attacks that will end with a body slam. The winning strategy, once again, is to have perfect timing and avoid all of his attacks, so as not to be hit and therefore not suffer a large amount of damage. Finally, we remind you that this skill can be combined with the previous one, creating a potentially deadly combo from which you must be able not to be hit or risk repeating the entire fight.
