Fosun Sports Group are making a minority investment in EG.
Evil Geniuses announced a new partnership with English Football League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Fosun Sports Group who acquired Wolves in 2016 are making a minority investment in EG; valuing the team at $255 million. The partnership aims to scale EG’s presence in other parts of the world.
“We are thrilled to partner with Wolves, a storied football club and strong sports and entertainment brand that aligns with our values and mission.” Said Nicole LaPointe Jameson, Evil Geniuses’ CEO. Jameson also discussed the partnership's potential to help expand EG’s presence in Asian markets. As well as providing the financial backing to sign top-tier players for their teams.
“This is an incredibly exciting partnership for Wolves and Wolves Esports". Said Russel Jones, Wolves’ General Manager of Marketing and Commercial Growth. "We have very lofty ambitions in esports, and this partnership allows us to learn from the very best in Evil Geniuses”.
Wolves Esports competes in various popular game titles like Rainbow Six Siege, Brawlhalla and Super Smash Bros. According to Russell, Wolves will pool resources across analysis and performance as well as marketing and commercial to service and benefit both organisations. Both teams will engage with one another over fan engagement initiatives and other events when time allows to do so.
This is not the first time a football team has partnered with an esports organization. We have seen Chinese Dota 2 team LGD entering a successful partnership with French football team Paris Saint-Germain. Wolves aim to develop their esports division, while Evil Geniuses will look to get a strong foothold geographically and develop stronger squads with the help of this partnership.
