One of the unique things that makes CSGO such a popular game is the fact that it has an in-game economy. As much as we want to buy a weapon every round, there are cases where we can’t do this because we don’t have enough money. This is where eco rounds come to play.
Although you may want to get guns like the AK-47 or M4A4 every round, this won’t be possible, especially if you lose many rounds. Consequently, you need to know how to play when you’re on an eco. It may seem straightforward, but there are many other things to be aware of, so let’s learn more about it.

Remember that eco rounds are winnable
One of the biggest mistakes that CSGO players make is related to the eco rounds and the fact that they just give up and wait for their enemies to kill them. Sure, winning an Eco round is not as easy as it seems, but this doesn’t mean it is impossible. On the contrary, even the smallest mistake from your opponents can be fatal, so it is important to focus and try to win.
Speaking of winning, the tactic you should choose for an eco round depends on a lot of things. Some people like to rush a given bombsite or a location and hope to score a kill and steal weapons. However, you can often find many CSGO players who prefer to play slowly and wait for their opponents to make mistakes.
To be fair, both tactics might work, so it depends on the map and what you want to achieve in the given round.
There are a couple of types of eco
Unlike in CS 1.6, where an eco round meant that no one bought anything, CSGO is a little bit different. Although there are teams and players that do just that, others know that it is always possible to win a round, especially if the map is in their favor. As a result, they often get different items during the eco round that might help them win.
For starters, you will almost always find at least a few nades. The fact that the team has a Flashbang and a Smoke might be exactly what they need to reach a given bombsite or score an easy kill. Hence, at least one of the teams should get those things.
Speaking of buying during an eco round, you can often use the so-called “decos”. The latter is a term that people use when they or their team purchases Deagles during an eco round. As you know, this is one of the strongest pistols in the game, which means that people often get it and try to win a round.
Decos are powerful on some maps because a single headshot can result in a kill.
Always communicate with your team if you want to buy during an eco round
One of the big mistakes that will almost always cost you a lot of money is related to buying weapons during an eco round. Although this tactic can work in many situations because your opponents wouldn’t expect it, you must communicate with your team before purchasing a gun.
If you have enough CSGO money to get an AK or an M4A4, tell your team you’re planning to do that. Usually, they won’t get anything during that round and try to help you make the most out of your gun. Besides assisting with kills, they will make sure to get the weapon if you die.
With that said, some people will “force buy” every round, regardless of the situation. Even though it is not advisable to waste your money for no reason, if this person keeps getting a gun every round, you may have to join him. That said, try to avoid this situation by communicating.
Try baiting your opponents’ grenades
Assuming you’re playing full eco and do not have armor, one of the worst things that can happen is to get hit by a grenade. A well-timed one can do tons of damage and is enough to lose the round, especially if it hits multiple units. Consequently, it is really important to do everything in your power to avoid it.
There are many things that you can do not to find yourself in such a situation. For example, you have to be careful where you’re going because there are certain chokepoints where there are loads of things that can go wrong. Needless to say, it is probably not a good idea to go there unless you have some way to counter them.
Speaking of counters, some teams/players like faking that they’ll rush a given site just so the enemies can throw their nades. This wouldn’t work against opponents who know what they’re doing, but it can do wonders for some players.
Final thoughts
Having an eco round in CSGO does not mean that you will automatically lose. On the contrary, you have to do everything in your power to step up your game and don’t lose. That’s why some of the best teams in the world come up with all sorts of ideas.
Regardless of what you decide to do, winning an eco round is easier said than done. However, you can do a lot even if you lose but kill at least several of your opponents. Doing this means that they will have to purchase a gun, so they will waste $.
