This is how you can change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom to clean him up and restore his BOTW style!
When you first jump into Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll likely notice that Link looks just a bit like a hobo. After a period of recovery in the opening of the game, he’s left looking pretty scruffy. You can quickly buy some new threads and get set-up to bring Link back to his normal look, but what the hair? How to change link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom isn’t as immediately obvious as changing his clothes.
Other Zelda games haven’t given you as much control over Link’s look. Normally, he’s locked in to his default style. Even in Breath of the Wild you couldn’t change his hair. There were tons of options for clothes and hoods, but not his hair. That’s been fixed in TOTK, but you still don’t have the widest options. If you want to get Link tidied up with his ponytail you’ve seen in the lead up to TOTK, you’ll need to learn how to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom. There’s a lot you can do to improve your TOTK experience, but fixing his hair can improve the clips you share of Korok torture devices.
To get a different hair style going and change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to go a special item and them equip it. Getting the item to restore Link is tied to exploring his past and the life he’s had in between games. This is how it works and how you can change Link’s hair in TOTK.

Changing Link’s Hair in Tears of the Kingdom
In Tears of the Kingdom, you have much more control over Link’s appearance. You can wear monster masks, even get Majora’s Mask in Tears of the Kingdom. However, for hair you’re limited to just a few options. There’s the standard look where he’s in a bit of a mess after spending so long resting up from Ganondorf’s awakening. However, if you seek it out there’s a second look once you know how to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom. That’s his other look, with a pony tail and his hair neatly tied up at the back of his head.
This second style for Link is a lot closer to how Link looked in Breath of the Wild. It’s still a bit further out from his retro nostalgic look. However, it is nice to have another option to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom.
The easiest way to get Link’s hair tidied up in TOTK is to collect his hair band. You’ll find that at a spot on the map you’ll know quite well if you played through Breath of the Wild, Link’s house. Or as it is in Tears of the Kingdom, Link and Zelda’s house.
Where is the Hair Clip in Tears of the Kingdom?
Breath of the Wild Link slept for 100 years and returned to find his house needed a lot of work. If you finished the storyline that precedes Tarry Town, you’ll have re-unlocked Link’s old home in the original game. (Which you had to rebuy 100 years later) This is where you’ll need to go to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom. Unfortunately none of your old gear is here, you’ll still need to do quests to get the master sword in TOTK.
This house is located in Hateno Village. In the time between games, Zelda has moved in and redecorated! It’s still recognisably Link’s house though. Inside the house, you’ll find Zelda’s dairy on the upper floor. Since making herself at home, she’s made a few changes to your living space.
In Zelda’s diary, she writes about needing a new secret room added on now that she’s living in the town. You can find this new room outside of the house. It isn’t attached to the house proper, and oddly feels like a weird place to go to work in quiet. Tarry has made a decent job setting up somewhere secluded though.
Head outside, and go over to a well near the house. This is Zelda’s Secret Well. It’s easy to spot from the ladder poking up. Descend the ladder into the well to reach the bottom. Down there, you’ll find a chest. Inside is a Well-Worn Hair Band. This is the item you’ll need to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom.
Before you leave the well, you should have a proper search of the secret room too. You’ll also find Zelda’s diary which is key to staring up a new questline that gives you the Champion’s Tunic in Tears of the Kingdom. The hair clip is an immediate reward for finding the secret room though.

Once you’ve gotten the well-worn hair clip, it’s simple to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom. All you’ll need to do is equip the hair clip! You can do that in the same way that you equip any other bit of clothing. You head to your inventory, select the hair clip, and then click equip. Once applied, Link’s hair will be in a much tidier ponytail rather than his normal messy look. You can just remove the clip whenever you want to switch back.
The hair clip changes your physical appearance. However, it doesn’t have an effect on gameplay. You’re not getting any stat boosts or other effects like with most bits of headwear, unfortunately. It’s just a change to his appearance. Once you know how to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom, you can swap back at any point. It’s a nice cosmetic change though that makes Link look a bit more like his normal self.
This is the main way to change Link’s hair in Tears of the Kingdom. Although, with everything in Tears of the Kingdom someone might discover a different way to change up his hairstyle too! At the moment though, there definitely doesn’t seem to be a barber. You can also make use of a lot of the masks and hats in the gam to change things up. Using one of the classic Link outfits can hide his longer hair quite a bit! Other than that, you’re limited to the long hair and ponytail looks for Link in TOTK.
