CCO of Saber Interactive Gives Update on Space Marine 2 and More

After Embracer sold Saber Interactive, many feared for their favorite upcoming titles, but the CCO of Saber Interactive Gives Update on Space Marine 2 and other games.

Yesterday, Embracer announced that it sold a number of studios, including Saber Interactive which they acquired back in 2020 for $525 million. The Swedish gaming and entertainment company also gave ownership of Nimble Giant, 3D Realms, Sandbox Strategies, New World Interactive, Slipgate, Mad Head Games, Fractured Byte and DIGIC to Beacon Interacitve, an American investment group founded by Matthew Karch, the co-founder of Saber.

Embracer has been on the decline for a while now after they didn’t realize a two billion dollar deal. Consequently, they had to lay off more than a thousand people, stop development on 29 unannoucned games as well as close 7 studios. However, with the transaction including Saber, the Embracer’s debt has been reduced by $205 million, as well as the ceasing of all operations in Russia.

The Swedish Group will also keep studios such as Zen Studios, 4A Games, Tripwire, Beamdog, Tuxedo Labs, Demiurge, Shiver, Aspyr, Snapshot and 34 Big Things. They will also keep publishing rights to titles such as Killing Floor and Teardown, also keeping the Metro-franchise through Plaion.

With Saber sold to Beacon Interactive, fans were anxious about the fate of some of the titles developed by the American developer such as Jurassic Park: Survival, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and most notably Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2. Thankfully, Tim Willits gave everyone an update on X (formerly known as Twitter) that several titles that they are currently working on, including the ones mentioned above are continuing development without issue.

Matthew Karch, director of Beacon Interactive also said that the acquisition is mutually beneficial to both Embracer, Saber and of course Beacon, as it “leave both parties in much better positions to grow [their] respective businesses”. However, the cooperation between Embracer and the co-founder of Saber will not cease.

Tim Willits also said that we should expect some news about the games Saber Interactive is developing. Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2, the sequel to the 2011 shooter is set to release September 9th, 2024. We’ve already seen gameplay videos both about the singleplayer and the coop modes of the game, but there’s still much to be seen.
