The strongest team in NA took on the reigning regional champs in the LPL in a dynamic C9 vs LNG bout that had everyone guessing.
LNG has been one of the most stable teams in the running. For a region like LPL, that's a lot considering the high level of play that they routinely practice in. With that, any mistake would've been fatal for the LCS team. On the other hand, Cloud9 stood tall in their respective area due to how consistently they produced Worlds-level players in their region. This reason, among others, gave them more than enough to go toe-to-toe against China's 3rd seed.
C9 vs LNG Gaming Recap
At the start, Blaber and co. had to opt for a champ composition that was more disruptive to find a way around LNG's defenses. On the other side, LNG wanted more crowd control to keep their adversaries in arm's length and deny any important objectives in the early game.
Great roams from Zven let his team push back LNG's star player Scout and force his teleport. The midlaner had his revenge as soon as he got back into lane however as he got a guaranteed kill on EMENES with Tarzan's help.
Going into midgame, cross-map skirmishes gave C9 some breathing room to get leads of their own. After a few trades, C9 turtled to prevent LNG from starting a snowball. Cloud9 knew they were only strong as a team with the current draft, and for a while they avoided any major losses. However, LNG baited their cooldowns and sieged their towers, so they knew they were at a disadvantage.
By minute 18, the small lull in the match led to LNG refocusing on the third drake. But a few misplays led to C9 chasing them out of the river, leading Scout and co. to take a tier 1 tower instead, being very careful not to overstep.
With both teams maintaining the same kill count, it was a very tense midgame as things built up to a game-ending clash.
After some technical difficulties, the game carried on into a massive teamfight down mid, with Zika's flash ult making the difference in the clash. With the killcount being in LNG's favor, Cloud9 was completely outscaled in the lategame with no way out as the LPL #3 seed slowly split pushed into their opponent's base to end the game.
