When it comes to selecting the best hero to win games in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5, some strategies have changed compared to the last season, with various modifications to several heroes and minions.
With these new elements in mind, here is a selection of the best heroes to win games in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5. These heroes work well with various minion types so you can pick them no matter your current lobby, and they are simple enough to master so you can easily climb the ranks in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5.
Contents
Pyramad
Hero Power: Give a minion +1 Health. (Gains +1 Health each turn you don’t use this!)
Pyramad is a powerful hero in the late game, as its Hero Power gains more and more power each turn you don’t use it. This allows for strategies with various minions, as Pyramad’s hero power lets you take the time to build your board before granting one of your minions with a large amount of health points.
Pyramad’s Hero Power is especially powerful with Taunt minions as it will keep them alive much longer than with their default health, or with any minion that benefits from each kill they secure, such as Baby Krush, Blade Collector, or Wildfire Elemental.
Aranna Starseeker
Hero Power: Passive. After 14 friendly minions attack, the first minion you buy each turn is free.
Aranna Starseeker is one of the best heroes to play in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5, but her Hero Power won’t do anything before mid to late game. Once 14 friendly minions have attacked, Aranna Starseeker’s Hero Power lets you buy a minion for free each turn, giving you more opportunities to fill your board with interesting creatures or grab an additional Battlecry minion without spending a single gold coin.
Since Aranna Starseeker’s Hero Power only activates once 14 friendly minions have attacked, you need to focus on minions who can attack several times in a turn to activate Aranna Starseeker’s Hero Power as soon as possible. Minions with Reborn, Divine Shield, or a Deathrattle that summons additional minions are great if you play Aranna Starseeker, as they will unlock her Hero Power faster.
Drek’Thar
Hero Power: Passive. Avenge (2): Give your minions +1 Attack permanently.
Drek’Thar’s Hero Power is a passive ability that permanently gives your minions +1 Attack every time two of them die on the battlefield, allowing you to buff your board without doing anything. If you play with Reborn or Deathrattle minions that keep on summoning new creatures, this Hero Power can become extremely powerful as you can get free additional Attack each turn.
Alternatively, you can pick Vanndar Stormpike, whose Hero Power is similar to Drek’Thar. Instead of providing +1 Attack to your minions after two of them die, Vanndar grants them +1 Health permanently.
Greybough
Hero Power: Passive. Give +1/+2 and Taunt to minions you summon during combat.
You don’t need to do anything to benefit from Greybough’s Hero Power, as it automatically gives +1/+2 and Taunt to any minion you summon during combat. This passive Hero Power works extremely well with boards that rely on Deathrattles summoning additional minions or Reborn creatures that come back to life after being defeated.
The best kind of minions to play with Greybough are Beasts, as Banana Slamma and Mama Bear will further increase your summoned minions' power.
The Great Akazamzarak
Hero Power: Discover a Secret. Put it into the battlefield.
The Great Akazamzarak is a hero like no other. Instead of giving buffs to your minions, his Hero Power lets you discover a Secret and put it into the battlefield. Among these Secrets are powerful tools, such as Ice Block which can prevent you from taking fatal damage, Competitive Spirit which gives all your minions +1/+1 permanently after the next battle, or Autodefense Matrix which gives your minions Divine Shield.
This Hero Power is one of the best to play in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5, but the Secret you discover is random and not as reliable as other Hero Powers available in the game.
Shudderwock
Hero Power: Trigger a friendly minion’s Battlecry.
Shudderwock is an extremely powerful hero to play in Hearthstone Battleground Season 5. Its Hero Power doesn’t cost any gold and triggers a friendly minion’s Battlecry, allowing you to activate this effect once more without summoning a new minion.
Shudderwock works particularly well with boards that rely on Battlecry minions, such as murlocs or dragons. Brann Bronzebeard is useful to have if you play this hero, as this minion makes Shudderwock’s Hero Power even more powerful.
Infinite Toki
Hero Power: Refresh Bob’s Tavern. Include two minions from a Tavern Tier higher.
Infinite Toki is one of the strongest heroes in Hearthstone Battlegrounds. Her Hero Power guarantees you get higher-tier minions each turn, giving you access to some of the best minions before you have the gold required to upgrade your Tavern tier. For one gold, Infinite Toki refreshes the Tavern with two minions from a Tavern tier higher.
Since Anomalies can now feature the Tavern tier 7, you can secure these powerful minions before everyone else thanks to Infinite Toki’s Hero Power, making it viable both in early and late game.
Master Nguyen
Hero Power: Passive. At the start of every turn, choose from 2 new Hero Powers.
One of the Anomalies that changes the gameplay of Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5 makes all heroes Master Nguyen, so it is important to know how to play this hero if you want to climb up the ranks. Luckily, Master Nguyen is one of the best heroes to play in Hearthstone Battlegrounds Season 5, and mastering his Hero Power can give you a competitive edge over your opponents.
Master Nguyen’s Hero Power gives you a choice between two Hero Powers at the beginning of every turn, after seeing which minions are available in the Tavern. There is a large variety of Hero Powers that Master Nguyen can offer, from The Great Akazamarak’s secrets to Reno Jackson’s ability to make a minion Golden.
Depending on which Hero Power is available, you can adapt your strategy and either focus on a specific type of minion, upgrade your Tavern Tier, protect yourself from incoming damage, or strengthen your board.
