there are currently 19 chapters which are divided between the two playable characters Alan Wake and Saga Anderson. Their stories are intertwined with each other so you don't have to worry about missing any of them. More will be added later via DLC which Remedy has already announced.

If you play through the game, Saga Anderson's side of the story features 10 chapters while Alan Wake's side is currently down to 9 chapters.
