It has all lead up to this moment, but will Team BDS or MAD Lions join G2 Esports in the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational?
After the second Round of the 2023 League of Legends EMEA Championship Spring Playoffs, only one match remains to decide who will be crowned as Champions this split, and who gets the chance to prove themselves in this year’s first international League of Legends event!
Team BDS vs MAD Lions Preview
Team BDS
Juš “Crownie” Marušič and his teammates have an incredible season behind them: they only lost 2 matches out of the 9 played in the Spring Regular Season, then went to an undefeated rampage in the Group Stage, where they beat SK Gaming and KOI 2-0, not leaving any room for recouperation for either of their opponents. Team BDS have really found their form after the Winter Split, playing for Crownie in the botlane, while Adam “Adam” Maanane does what he is best at: creating space by picking literally any tank or bruiser, then putting immense pressure on their opponents.
This meant that Team BDS have surprised everyone (except for true believers of the team) by beating Team Vitality 3-0. The Bo5 was not a stomp, which is even better for the young players, as they shown that they can play, and come back from a gold and experience deficit – proving that they are not the same BDS as everyone got used to in 2022.
MAD Lions
While BDS is on a roll, the Lions had to stand up from one of the lowest points this year: Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla and co. literally clawed their way into the Group Stage after beating Team Heretics in the tiebreakers at the end of the Regular Season. After that, they got blown out of the water by Team Vitality in the first round of Groups, meaning they had to get into Playoffs through the Loser’s Bracket. While they started to come alive again, the Bo3 against Fnatic was incredibly close, with 1 Baron fight deciding the outcome of the series.
After that, however, they became a completely different team: they defeated Astralis 2-0 thanks to Yasin “Nisqy” Dincer’s Annie, knocked out Winter Champions G2 Esports after a Bo5 that went to the 5th match, and beat Team Vitality 3-1, who they lost against in the Group Stage. It took a while, but MAD is an incredibly strong team again – but can they make it to MSI?
Team BDS vs MAD Lions Predictions
Even though Matyás “Carzzy” Orság and his team look much-much better than before, playing their signature slow-burn, lategame fighting style to almost perfection, they haven’t been able to beat Team BDS this year: in Winter, they could hold out until almost 40 minutes, but didn’t get the gold lead once thanks to Adam and Ilias “nuc” Bizriken. In the Spring Regular Season, BDS managed to win 7 minutes faster, but again with Adam’s Darius – so that’s a pick MAD will have to keep an eye out for. This should be the deciding factor in the 2023 LEC Spring Final: MAD are great at the meta, but BDS can adapt and overcome, without the improvising, as they can play many different compositions – and I think they will be able to surprise MAD Lions, claiming the last MSI spot.
