Even in Super Mario RPG, there are bosses to fight, some simple and others more difficult, and others that require some specific steps to be unlocked, such as Culex for example. Anyway, the first non-tutorial boss you'll encounter in the game is Croco. Although the Super Mario RPG Croco boss is to be considered the first real boss you will have to face, this does not mean that you should take it lightly because he is still capable of putting you in difficulty. In this article, therefore, we will give you some tips to best overcome this clash and be able to proceed with your adventure.
How to beat the Super Mario RPG Croco boss
The first thing to keep in mind, even before coming across this boss fight, is the level of your characters. In fact, especially if you are playing on normal difficulty, it is advisable to approach the battle with both Mallow and Mario at least at level four, as you will have an easier time in the entire battle. In case you are not yet at this level, we recommend that you complete some secondary activities to advance your level.
Another very important thing to consider is being equipped in the right way. In a game like Super Mario RPG, in fact, it is vitally important to be in possession of armor and some accessories, as they will allow you to suffer less damage. Fortunately, it is not difficult to get hold of these items, as they are sold from the shop found in the Mushroom Kingdom. However, obviously, you will need to have the corresponding in-game currency to be able to purchase items.
Now that you know how to prepare for this battle, the time has come to get into the heart of the matter and tell you how to defeat the Super Mario RPG Croco boss. The first thing to know is that, before engaging in the actual battle against Coco, you will have to chase him until he reaches an area with no escape route and tries to hide. What you will have to do now, therefore, is go behind him and jump on his head. You'll know you did it correctly because Croco will tell you how many years will pass before you manage to catch him. This number will drop more and more and so you will be able to enter combat.
As for his way of fighting, Croco doesn't have his arsenal of skills at his disposal, but he is still capable of landing hits that inflict a lot of damage. For this reason, you should absolutely not underestimate it. His main attacks involve a charge attack, a bomb throw, and an attack called Weird Mushroom. The strategy to follow, therefore, is to block as many attacks as possible to try to eliminate or at least drastically reduce the damage you can suffer.
Another very important thing to know is that Croco is vulnerable to fire, so make use of the Mario fireball ability. Furthermore, this will also cause Croco to come out of hiding on the next turn, which you can use to your advantage to deal damage to him. From here on, try to alternate basic attacks with special ones, especially so as not to consume too many Flower Points, which could be useful for healing you if you are unable to block Croco's attacks. Once you have defeated Croco, you will witness a cutscene in which Croso will leave and Mallow will receive his coin back.
