Excel Esports is looking to swiftly make changes to its Summer Split Roster.
With news that top laneKi “Expect” Dae-han and mid laner Son “Mickey” Young-min will leave the roster completely come the Summer Split, we now mighty ave an idea of who is looking to replace them. ESPN is reporting that Excel will look to bring in Unicorns of Love top laner Felix “Kryze” Hellström and promote BT Excel mid laner Jordan “Special” Scheffer to their starting LEC roster.
After a seventh-place finish in the Spring Split, failing to make playoffs, Excel has acted swiftly to attempt to undo some of the wrongs going forward. The BTXL rosters are currently competing in the EU Masters, though having gone 0-3 in their first week of matches, the academy side has a lot of work to do to keep their dream alive.
BTXL made it to the EU Masters having gone unbeaten in the UKLC, right up until game 3 of their best-of-five series against Fnatic Rising in which the other LEC academy side reverse swept them. BTXL are yet to pick up a single match win since.
As for the rumored new top laner, Kryze. He’s not currently taking part in EU Masters after his current side the UOL Sexy Edition side came fourth in the German Prime League Pro Division Spring Playoffs. Just missing out on the chance to get to the EU Masters via the play-in stages.
An excellent move?
Excel has had a rough time of it in the LEC. Joining at the last minute of the league’s formation back in 2019, the UK organization has struggled to break into the top half of the league. This past splits seventh-place finish is certainly an improvement for the organization, but alas, not good enough for the powers that be within the team.

Excel has been teasing an announcement for this Friday, it remains to be seen if this is a double announcement about a roster chance, however, the timing of this leak could be seen as a little too convenient. Though with Special still currently competing in the EU Masters, it could be an unneeded distraction for himself and his teammates, especially given that anyone on an academy roster will also be wanting to move into the starting LEC side.
