Rekkles Joins T1 Academy for 2024

Will Rekkles be the only Western player moving to the East this offseason?

Carl Martin Erik “Rekkles” Larsson has today been confirmed as the newest T1 Academy Support. Rekkles’ move to the East has been a long time coming, and fans will finally get to see the LEC veteran test their skills against the best prospects in the world. Both Rekkles and T1 announced the news via their social channels, with Rekkles posting a two-minute video on his YouTube Channel, while T1 posted on their specific League of Legends X account.

The news came about when Brieuc “LEC Wooloo” Seeger via Sheep Esports that Rekkles has verbally agreed with the newly crowned World Champions. Despite considering offers to play in the LEC’s next split, Rekkles has decided to make history and be one of the few Western players selected to play in Korea. This news comes after Sheep Esports reported that Liiv Sandbox attempted to persuade North American Mid laner Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun to join the LCK squad over Cloud9.

Rekkles to join T1’s Academy: How Did We Get Here?

As mentioned above, Rekkles reportedly had offers to compete in the LEC next season, which was the apparent choice before this reporting. Rekkles stepped down from Fnatic’s starting roster ahead of the Summer Split. Before his departure, the Swedish veteran announced he would be role-swapping to Support. Rekkles would not find himself on Fnatic or any starting roster following his role swap, but many would have expected he would have been able to find himself back on the stage sooner rather than later.

Rekkles will join the organization that just hoisted the League of Legends World Championship. T1 took home the gold in convincing fashion in front of their home fans after a 3-0 sweep of the LPL’s Weibo Gaming. Seeing how Rekkles will perform in a new environment will be interesting.
