Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Mr Negative boss is one of the main bosses that you will have to face during your adventures if you want to get to the final battle and see the end credits. The fact that he is not a large opponent like Lizard for example can be, should not make you take this fight lightly, as it is still a fight that can put you in difficulty. For this reason, in this article, we have decided to give you some advice on how to get the better of this enemy.
How to beat Mr Negative in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
As with practically all the bosses that you will face during this adventure, the boss fight against Mr Negative also consists of several phases. In each of these, there are characteristics and peculiarities to take into consideration to try not to be caught by surprise. Consequently, follow our advice to best face this clash against Mr Negative.
Phase 1
As soon as you enter Kraven's arena, you will immediately have to fight Mr Negative. Before getting into the fight, there will be a short tutorial phase in which you will be shown the attacks of this boss. First of all, know that Mr Negative is able to use his sword from a distance following a horizontal trajectory. What you will have to do to avoid this attack is to jump as soon as the command appears on the screen. For the rest of the fight, we advise you to stay as close as possible to the boss in order to avoid this type of attack.
However, his sword is not only capable of striking horizontally, but also vertically. Pay attention to the wave of energy that will come out of the sword and try in every way to avoid it. Fortunately, this type of attack is quite easy to avoid, even if Mr Negative were to use a combo, so you shouldn't have much trouble avoiding it.
However, one attack you will need to pay particular attention to is his Crush attack. To avoid this attack, the only solution you have is to dodge the attack, as there is no way you can parry it since it is a powerful attack. To recognize this move, all you have to do is watch Mr Negative and see when a blue circle appears on the screen. In that case, it means that Mr Negative will be about to use this attack and so you will have to dodge it. Alternatively, you can also decide to run around the game arena.
Keep in mind that, if you are at a distance from your opponent, Mr Negative may use an attack in which he will hurl two energy waves from his hands at you. Luckily for you, these attacks are not difficult to parry. Consequently, to be able to empty his life bar, all you have to do is stay as close to him and make use of skills and gadgets to get the better of Mr Negative.
Phase 2
Once you have managed to inflict enough damage on Mr Negative, a small cutscene will begin which represents the beginning of the second phase of the battle. As soon as this phase begins, Mr Negative will summon a demon who will have the task of enclosing Mr Negative in a bubble to keep him safe. In fact, when this bubble is active, any attack you decide to carry out will have no effect whatsoever. Also, your Venom powers will not be functional.
Consequently, the only thing you can do at this moment is to dodge and jump the energy waves that Mr Negative will throw at you, in a very similar way to what we saw in the first phase of the battle. Always stay on the move and wait for your abilities to recharge, so that, in that way, you will have the opportunity to use them to enter the bubble and destroy it from inside.
Once you destroy the bubble, you will have one less problem to worry about and the battle will continue. Mr Negative will make use of the same attacks we described previously, so use the same strategies to avoid them, although there will be some additions to his arsenal. One of them is a combo where he will try to hit you twice with his sword (both attacks are easy to parry and/or dodge) and then use an overhead slash which you will have to parry to avoid getting hit. Furthermore, in this way, you will also have the possibility to counterattack and inflict damage on the boss.
Ultimately, for this second phase, the most effective strategy to use is to rely both on your moves and on your skills and gadgets that you have available. In fact, making use of these elements can prove to be a very important choice and will certainly be able to help you during the battle. However, keep in mind that, in case you die, you will not have to start the fight from the beginning, but only from the beginning of the phase you are in.
Phase 3
Once you have managed to empty Mr Negative's life bar for the second time, the third and final phase of the battle will begin. In this phase, as could be imagined, the boss will be more aggressive than before, therefore he will make use of many more combos. The attacks, however, will remain more or less the same, with the difference that they will be chained to each other, so they will be more difficult to dodge and/or parry.
One of these combos that you will have to pay attention to is the one in which he will throw several energy slashes, a barrier of projectiles, and an overhead attack at you. Taken alone, these attacks are all quite simple to avoid, but in rapid succession, they can create some problems if you are not very careful and if you are not always alert and attentive. Consequently, our advice is to focus on avoiding this type of move and to attack only when you have the chance, such as during the cooldown periods between one combo and another.
In fact, especially if you are playing on maximum difficulty, this type of combo can be deadly, so try in every way not to get hit if you don't want to repeat this phase of the battle from the beginning. Once Mr Negative's health bar has been completely depleted for the third time, he will again summon a demon to create a protective bubble around him. At this point, you will simply have to avoid his attacks until your abilities have recharged and then you can use them in the same way you did previously. In this way, once the bubble has been destroyed, you will be able to put an end to this clash once and for all.
