South American organization Isurus Gaming has won the first ever Liga Latino Americana Championship and sealed a slot at the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational.
Isurus Gaming Wins LLA
Isurus Gaming became the first ever LLA (Liga Latino Americana) champion this past Saturday. The Final was held in the Movistar Arena in Bogota, Colombia. The LLN and the LAS decided to form the LLA this year by taking their top teams and merging both leagues for 2019. Isurus faced off against Rainbow7 and cruised to a 3-1 series win. They will represent Latin America in the Mid Seasonal Invitational, set to start in early May. The team has ambitions to become the first ever Latin American team to advance from the playoff stage of an international tournament.
The LLA was one of the last three regions to determine a winner and played its Final in Colombia for the first time in five years. The championship sold out the arena of around ten thousand fans and streamed to around 600 thousand viewers across Twitch and Youtube. Latin America had been previously split into two sub-regions of North (LAN) and South (LAS). This, unfortunately, caused a vast disparity in both leagues. This was the main reasoning behind the decision of combining both to raise the level on the league and improve international results.
Isurus Gaming
Isurus Gaming was created in 2011 and is one of the oldest organizations in the region. Although they have only won three titles, they seem determined to put Latin America on the map at MSI. The team acquired members from both Rainbow7 and Kaos Latin Gamers at the beginning of the season to create a regional super team. The regular season, however, did not yield the desired results. Isurus Gaming finished in fourth place and had to go through three different opponents to lift the trophy.
In terms of international hopes, Isurus has many players that have represented the region in international events prior. This experience can help a team designed to perform internationally to be able to finally do so. A big factor in international competition is the mental fortitude the team has when they face lesser teams. After the play-in stage, the quality of the competition will increase. Isurus Gaming will have to face either Team Liquid, Flash Wolves or one of the other play-in teams. Disregarding that this is no easy task, the team has the mentally of being the first to break the mold and make into the main event.
First the LLA, Next Up MSI
With ambitions high and time short, it is no surprise that MSI will be an indicator to see if the LLA region has accomplished what they were attempting to do with region merge. Did the merge decrease the skill gap against other minor regions? We'll have to wait and see. If the team is unable to finish MSI strong, they will give it another go in the Summer Split, where they not only hope to dominate regionally but hope to have a better opportunity in the Worlds Stage.
