LoL – MSI 2022 Group Stage Day Two Recap

It's been a long wait without competitive League of Legends action. With Day Two of MSI 2022 underway, the action was hotting up.

After an exciting Day One of MSI, it's time to see how teams react. G2 claimed a critical 2-0, setting themselves up well heading into Day Two. As for NA, EG had a rough first day. However, with two games on Day Two, they have a chance to get back.

MSI Day One Recap

MSI – G2 Esports v Evil Geniuses

G2 EG MSI 2

First blood was secured by G2, as EG got off to a disastrous start. G2 continued to dominate the early game, picking up 4 kills early. However, with G2 dropping the Rift Herald top side, EG was able to counter with two kills of their own. By the 16-minute mark, G2 was 3k ahead, while also having way more control on the map compared to EG. With Baron just four minutes away, it wouldn't be long before we saw a decisive moment. Prior to Baron spawning, G2 forced a play in the mid-lane and EG collapsed. Their lead moved to 6.5k as EG got caught out. G2 pulled the trigger on Baron but fumble the play, giving over three kills to EG alongside the Baron. That play saw the lead drop to just 3k.

With Baron, EG was able to force into the G2 base, knocking down two inhibitors with one traded back to G2. Any gold lead G2 had was wiped out, with no major objective on the map. EG once again forced a play on the top side, and despite G2 engaging, EG came away with the fight victory. With the Nexus turret's insight, G2 managed to bait EG into a push as G2 survived. With Baron secured by EG, they tried to force a play in the G2 base, but it's completely whiffed. G2 defend their base, ace EG and secured an Infernal Soul. The next fight is once again a win for G2, the 5v5 results in an ace for G2.

  • Time: 38:19
  • Kills: 22-14
  • Turrets: 7-9

MSI – Evil Geniuses v ORDER

ORD EG MSI 2

First blood secured by EG, in what already feels like a must-win for the NA side. EG kept a grip on the game, forging ahead with a 2.5k lead by the 17-minute mark. Despite a kill going over to ORD, EG maintained their lead with Baron spawning on the map. The game's first 5v5 ends in disaster for ORD, as they lose a member and are forced to concede map pressure. After a short pause, EG came back strong and maintained their lead. Next up for EG is Baron, which they're able to secure despite losing one member. The buff put EG into an 8k lead as they look to end the game. With Baron, EG pushed into other ORD base as EG secured their first win of MSI 2022.

Quick Stats:

  • Teams: EG – ORD
  • Time: 38:00
  • Kills: 17-5

MSI – DetonatioN FocusMe v SAIGON BUFFALO ESPORTS

DFM SGB MSI 2

First blood went over to DFM in the top side of the map. Despite an early kill lead, DFM barely took a 1k lead into the mid-game, with SGB keeping them within sight. DFM was able to take control of the game as Baron spawned, with their lead looking more secure. Though, as we typed that, SGB secured a pick onto Yutapon as they tried to force a Baron. SGB managed to secure the Baron, while also taking down four members of DFM. With Baron secured, SGB found themselves in the lead for the first time, moving 4k ahead on the Baron power-play. With their lead secured, SGB once again secured a Baron after knocking down two of the DFM inhibitors. While DFM was busy taking the Elder Drake, SGB looked to end the game as they secured a huge win.

Quick Stats:

  • Teams: DFM – SGB
  • Time:35:43
  • Kills: 17-17

MSI -Team Aze v T1

AZE T1 MSI 2 1

T1 picked up an expected first blood, as they look to maintain their unbeaten start. T1's dominance at the start of the game continued, as they picked up 9 kills and a 7k lead within 10 minutes. IT shows no signs of improving for AZE, as just 3-minutes later T1 was 10k ahead at the steps of the AZE base. With Baron not even on the Rift, T1 had broken into the AZE base as T1 looked to end this game as fast as possible. Despite their best efforts to stay in the game, AZE couldn't do anything to stop T1's advances. With just 20-minutes on the clock, T1 ended the game as they out-classed AZE.

The game's first big fight saw RED move ahead, taking down four members of IW as their lead was wiped. RED managed to knock down one inhibitor, however, they threw away their advantage in the next team fight. With RED moving towards Drake, IW managed to knock down four members of RED. It's another fight victory for IW, as they picked up an ace against RED. With five members of RED down, IW pushed into the base as they get their first win of MSI 2022.

MSI – Royal Never Give Up v PSG Talon

RNG PSG MSI 2

It's an early double kill for RNG, a disaster start for PSG. RNG was 2.5k ahead at the 8-minute mark, with PSG finding themselves with so much to do to stay in the game. PSG did manage to get on the board, however, though they remained 3k behind. While RNG took their foot off the pedal, they maintain their dominance of the game. Having moved to 6k ahead at 20-minutes, it was just a matter of time, or a Baron, until they secured the win. However, with objectives spawning on the map, PSG managed to ace RNG. While they remained significantly behind, it might be the confidence boost they need. RNG was able to secure the Baron, and while they chose not to end, they did leave PSG's base in ruins. RNG reset and head back to PSG's base, this time, however, they do end as they secure their second win of MSI 2022.

Quick Stats:

  • Teams: RNG – PSG
  • Time: 28:04
  • Kills: 18-11
  • Turrets: 11-1
