League of Legends World Championship Rundown

The League of Legends World Championship are underway in South Korea! The tournament will be played using a 24 team format consisting of three stages. The teams will be competing for a prize pool of $2,225,000. 1st place will take home 37.5 % of the total pot ($834,375). The three stages of the LoL World Championship are being played in the following sequence:

The first stage is a play-in stage, the second stage is a group stage and the last stage is the knockout stage. 12 teams will compete in the first round which is a play-in stage with two rounds of different styles. 

The group stage consists of 4 groups with 4 teams each. The best 2 teams amongst each group will move on to the knockout stage. The 8 remaining teams will advance to the final phase (the knockout stage), which consists of the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
