League of Legends: LPL Suspended Until Further Notice due to Coronavirus

Some sad news from the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) with the League announcing that due to the Coronavirus outbreak in China the League will stay on a break past its 5th of February return date. The League was already on a break for the Lunar New Year.

As of right now, the return date for the League hasn’t been announced, with it being delayed until further notice. It’s worth noting that this delay is likely to send the LPL into a frenzy of matches when it does return, with the current LPL schedule seeing matches being played all seven days of the week. So while the delay is perfectly understandable it causes all sorts of issues when it does finally return.

The LPL did release a statement in English later confirming reports early today stating that: “We have decided to postpone week 2 of the LPL until we can ensure the safety and health of our players and fans. To our fans, we sincerely apologize that it has come to this and we will share any and all info as soon as we can. Stay Safe and thank you all for your support!”

The Chinese Motor Sports Associations has also delayed events from February 12th to 14th, which is also currently operating on advice from the General Administration of Sport which has advised them and others to pause all sports events before April. This is based on Tweets from Esports Journalist Ran, who also works as an English/Madorin translator.
