2019 Worlds Championships winners FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) have signed top laner Kim “Khan” Dong-ha to their 2020 LPL roster.
The team also announced that they’d be re-signing 2019 top laner Kim “GimGoon” Han-saem.
In a statement, FPX said: “We are happy to announce that Khan has joined FPX as a top laner. In the meantime, we have extended our contract with GimGoon. The S9 Championship Squad will stay together and become stronger!”
Khan joins the side as a Korean resident after star mid-laner Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang became the first Korean player to claim Chinese residency in the LPL. Doinb becoming a Chinese residency allows FPX to use another import slot in the future if required, assuming both Korean top laners don’t play at the same time.
Khan spent last year with SK Telecom T1, he has. However, he spent a number of years in China with stints at Kingzone DragonX and Longzhu Gaming.
The 2020 FunPlus Phoenix side is as follows:
Top – GimGoon/Khan
Jungle – Tian
Mid – Doinb
ADC – Lwx
Support – Crisp
It’s hard to say that the Worlds winning team is now better, however, it’s safe to say having retained their 2019 winning side while also bringing in an experienced player in Khan. 2020 will be a long season for the young side, no longer an unknown entity, the side will now be the team that every team will be gunning for.
