League of Legends: Excel Esports Sign Kryze as Starting Top Laner

Excel Esports welcomes Felix “Kryze” Hellström as the sides new top laner for the Summer Split.

Kryze will also be joined by BTXL mid laner and former Excel LEC starter, Joran “Special” Scheffer. Joran’s previous time on the Excel main roster came during the side’s first LEC Split in 2019 when they joined the league in its first season as a franchised venture.

New top laner, Kryze, was not part of the EU Masters after his former side UOL Sexy Edition came fourth in the German Prime League Pro Division Spring Playoffs. They just missed out on the chance to get to the EU Masters via the play-in stages.

After a seventh-place finish in the Spring Split, failing to make playoffs, Excel has acted swiftly to attempt to undo some of the wrongs going forward into Summer Split. Excel targetted playoffs for Spring but ended up falling just shy.

BTXL, the Excel academy side, most recently played at the EU Masters, making it to the quarter-finals after the team had a dramatic EU Master Group Stage which saw them overturn a week one 0-3 to end the group 3-3.

BTXL made it to the EU Masters having gone unbeaten in the UKLC, right up until game three of their best-of-five series against Fnatic Rising when they ultimately lost 3-2.

AN EXCELLENT MOVE?

Excel has had a rough time of it in the LEC. Joining at the last minute of the league’s formation back in 2019, the UK organization has struggled to break into the top half of the league. This past splits seventh-place finish is certainly an improvement for the organization, but alas, not good enough for the powers that be within the team.

However, Excel has made changes early and is looking to get its eggs together ahead of the Summer Split. As yet, we don’t know if we’ll see many major rosters changes before Summer, but Excel will certainly feel that they’ve made improvements to the side.
