LCS Week 2 Spring Split Preview: Will C9 and FLY Stay Undefeated?

Will Cloud9 and FlyQuest both stay undefeated at the end of Week 2?

The LCS is gearing up for its second week of action, with all eight teams looking to build upon their opening weekend. For Cloud9 and FlyQuest, this is an opportunity to stay undefeated heading into their Superweek grudge match. For teams like Immortals and Shopify Rebellion, this is a chance for either squad to pick up their first win of the season. ESTNN is here to break down the main storylines going into LCS Week 2.

Who Will Be On Top After LCS Week 2?

There is no better place to start than at the very top. Cloud9 and FlyQuest are the two squads that stood out so far. C9 showcased why they are first on everybody power rankings; the former LCS champions wasted no time putting both 100 Thieves and the defending champions NRG to the sword. Robert “Blaber” Huang and Joseph Joon “Jojopyun” Pyun are already forming a solid partnership, with both players picking up a Player of the Game award and Blaber picking up Week 1's Player of the Week award.

FlyQuest was an unknown going into the Spring Split despite being rated so highly on the power rankings. This is considered an odd group of players to be put together, and many were curious about how things would look in-game. Although it has only been two games, those questions have started to be answered. This is well and truly Kacper “Inspired” Słoma's team. Across both games, the teams played centered around Inspired, with their new rookie bot lane backing them up. This allows Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau to control things from the top lane. Bwipo has been allowed to play Olaf and Udyr so far, two champions that love to beat up on their lane match-up and shove in the waves to allow the Jungler to have free reign over the Voidgrubs.

Looking ahead to this week, Cloud9 first started their week in the opening game against Dignitas – a team that looked much better than expected. Cloud9's second game in week two is against Shopify Rebellion, who, at the time of writing this article, has yet to pick up their first win. As for FlyQuest, they must be on their toes as they face Team Liquid, another squad fighting for the top honors in the LCS. The weekend does not get easier for FlyQuest as they meet the defending LCS champions in NRG.

Who Will Win First, Shopify Or Immortals?

Shopify Rebellion and Immortals are the only squads not to pick up a win so far. However, this was not for lack of trying on Shopify's part, as they had to go up against two of the teams predicted to be fighting for the top three in Team Liquid and FlyQuest. Even within the games, they looked competitive and had some interesting approaches. With the LCS playing on the live patch, it will be interesting to see if David “Insanity” Challe has any more creative picks. In his opening game of the split against FlyQuest, Insanity pulled out the Zac Mid, which, for the most part, worked well in lane but struggled to have any impact against Poppy.

As for Immortals, they did not get off to the start they would have wanted. Game one was a must-win game for the squad as they went up against Dignitas, a side put in the same tier as Immortals near the bottom of the LCS standings. Immortals lost that game convincingly, the solo lanes for IMT struggled, and things did not get any easier when they took on FlyQuest. Looking ahead, IMT takes on Shopify Rebellion on Saturday, meaning one of these two squads will pick up their first win. Team Liquid follows this on Sunday. SR on Sunday takes on Cloud9. This makes SR vs IMT a crucial game, considering they are facing two of the strongest teams in the league the next day.
